Gospel Reading for Sunday, November 4th, 2018

Thirty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time

Take These Words to Heart

Questions for Family Discussion:

  • How should we behave toward others if we want them to know that they are loved?
  • How do we show God that we love him when we choose to love each other?

Please consider reading the upcoming Sunday gospel together as a family. The questions above are good conversation starters as you prepare your children for weekly mass.

A Note from the Principal:

Dear SJE Parents,

Our Home and School Association is our parent organization. All parents, by virtue of their child’s enrollment at SJE, are considered members of this organization. Our Home and School Board, consisting of a group of less than ten members, organizes events like our Fall Tailgate, Trunk and Treat, and our January spaghetti dinner. In addition, they are our fundraising group, supporting a wide variety of school events including field trips, guest speakers, and our Outdoor Education program. I am incredibly proud of this group of hardworking families.

Although the Board Members work tirelessly to plan, they cannot execute these events without the help of all of our school families. Next weekend, we will host our annual Craft Fair. This is one of our largest fundraisers, bringing in more than $3000 each year.   They need your help! I am resending our Craft fair Sign Up Genius this afternoon. Every single SJE family is asked to help out with this event.   We are still in need of help for table set up on Thursday evening, and tear down on Saturday afternoon. Additionally, we still need donations of chili.  (Families are asked to prepare and deliver at least one gallon of chili in a container which can be refrigerated.)

Please consider helping out in any way that you can. Your work benefits our children and the program that we offer!

Growing in God’s Love,

Mary Laidlaw Otto
Principal

  Thank you!

We are so grateful to all our volunteers for their help in organizing and implementing VIP Day. They are an amazing team, working to make sure that our students and their extended families and friends have an enjoyable day together.  Thanks also to our families who help their students to research and create saint costumes. This year, over seventy students dressed up as saints. Every year we inch a bit closer to my goal of every single child dressed as a saint. Perhaps next year will be the year!!

Open House Invitation

This Sunday, our school is hosting an Open House from 10 AM to noon. Students are asked to wear their school uniforms to mass this weekend, and then stop in and visit the open house. Although the focus of our Open House is on our Science lab, all our classrooms will be open. We will also have information available about our plans for K3. Are you interested in K3? Do you have a friend or family member who might be interested? We will have information available about our plans.

This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to show off their classrooms and work to their families. All students who attend the open house in an SJE uniform will be provided with an out of uniform coupon good for Monday, November 6th. We can’t wait to see our students showing off their SJE pride.

Find Us On Facebook
We communicate with our families in a variety of different ways. One of them is by maintaining a presence on social media sites. Do you have a Facebook account? Following our school webpage is a great way to get quick updates on our school.

You can also use Facebook to help share information about our school with your friends and family. Rating our school helps prospective families to discover what you love about us. We also encourage our families to share our posts. Every post that you share spreads the message of our mission to educate our children academically, socially and spiritually!

Remember: our current families are our best advertising. Your commitment to us helps to bring new families into our program.
  Seton Tournament Update

Congratulations to our seventh and eighth grade girls on their win in the first round of the Seton Volleyball Tournament. They will face St. Alphonsus tonight at 5:30 at Center Court in Waukesha. If they win that match, they will go on to play at 7:30 tonight. Check out the Seton webpage for updates.

Winter Fundraisers are Here!

Today’s paper envelope contains information on our winter fundraisers. This year, we are offering three choices to our families – See's Candies, Colectivo Coffee, and Rubi Red Cranberry products. All three of these choices make great gifts, and, of course, all will be delivered in time for Christmas. All payments, regardless of which item is ordered, must be sent in to the school office with completed order forms no later than Wednesday, November 21st. Please make all checks payable to St. John the Evangelist.

2nd Annual SJE Turkey Trot,
Tuesday, November 6th

FUTP60 is sponsoring another after school activity on November 6. An outdoor obstacle course will be followed by indoor treats of nachos and cheese to celebrate National Nachos Day!

Students will need to turn in a completed permission slip (included in last week's paper envelope) to participate. The activity will run from 2:45-4:30. We will begin and end in the gym. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held in the gym.
