Family Prayer

Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord

Reading I : Isaiah 50:4-7

God helps us.

  • The first reading from Isaiah is one of four passages that focus on the "servant" of God.
  • In all four examples, the servant is faithful, even in the face of suffering.
  • The servant in today's passage stands by his belief that with God on his side, he will not be put to shame.

Reading II : Philippians 2:6-11

God's name is holy.

  • Scripture scholars believe that today's second reading was a familiar early Christian hymn.
  • The purpose of Paul's hymn for the Philippians is to persuade the community to be united in Christ.
  • Paul uses the example of Jesus' self emptying obedience to encourage the community to end its divisions.

Gospel : Luke 22:14-23:56

Jesus shows us how to love.

  • Similar to the description of the servant of Isaiah, Jesus willingly accepted the suffering and anguish that can be the price of fidelity.
  • Throughout the Gospel of Luke, Jesus is depicted as the faithful prophet who speaks God's word even in the midst of his own suffering.
  • In today's account of the Passion of Christ, Luke emphasizes the innocence of Jesus.

JOG Presentations May 7th and 9th

This year our 8th grade students will continue the St. John’s Justification of Graduation (JOG) tradition on May 7th and 9th. Our 8th grade students will present to their parents, mentors, and members of the parish and school community how SJE has prepared him or her for the future.

Would you be interested in being a part of the viewing panel? As a member of the panel, your job is to sit back and listen to the accomplishments of an 8th grade student in the areas of Catholic faith, academics, service, extra-curricular activities and their future plans and then offer positive feedback.

Please consider being a part of this event. Each powerpoint presentation should last approximately 20 minutes. We would like you to consider listening to 2-3 students’ presentations. Two presentations will take about one hour.

Presentations are scheduled for:

May 7, 2025 12:30-2:30

May 9, 2025 8:30-11:00 and 12:00-2:30

If you are interested, please contact Mr. Oberdorf at 414-321-8540 or email boberdorf@sje.school by Wednesday, April 30 to let us know of your availability.
