Gospel Reading for Sunday, September 16th, 2018

Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time

God Comes to the Aid of the Faithful

Questions for Family Discussion:

  • What are some ways people continue the work of Jesus?
  • How can our actions and speech continue the work of Jesus?
  • How can we “take up our crosses”, as Jesus took up his cross?

Please consider reading the upcoming Sunday gospel together as a family. The questions above are good conversation starters as you prepare your children for weekly mass.
Students participated in our first Monday morning prayer service this week.
A Note from the Principal:
Dear SJE Families,
As you know, our staff is working on creating a more positive school culture this year. I am so excited to tell you that we will be sending three teachers to participate in the Leadership Advancing Character and Culture in Schools program at Alverno College. Mrs. Wisniewski, Mrs. Unger, and Mrs. Crass will be engaging with other area teachers in a year of ongoing conversation, learning, and planning to support our efforts to create a positive culture, rooted in our Catholic faith, and guided by our shared values, that will support a positive environment for all of our students.

I will be sharing updates on this programming with you as the year progresses.

Soles for Catholic Education Walk
Today’s Thursday envelope contains sign up information for the Soles for Catholic Education Walk to be held on Saturday, October 20 th , at Mount Mary University. Sign up is free and includes a t-shirt for every participant.  Although this is not a mandatory event, families are asked to consider seeking pledges for their walkers. Pledges collected come right back to our school, where they are used to purchase updated textbooks and student technology equipment.  If you collect pledges, we ask that you send them directly to school, rather than donating through the Soles Walk website, as there are processing fees removed from donations made via the web.

Students who sign up for the walk will be provided with a paper footprint to display on our hallway walls. We can’t wait to line our halls with footprints!

Signup for the walk must be completed online:

Please search for St. John the Evangelist. The name of our team is SJE Flock of Eagles.
We hope that you will join us for this fun, family-oriented event.
Boxtops for Education
Challenge is Beginning
Have you been saving Boxtops this summer? Now is the time to turn them in to school!! Simply clip your Boxtops, place them in groups of 25 (in sandwich bags or envelopes), and send them to school. Students should turn their Boxtops into their homeroom teachers. The class who collects the most Boxtops per student will win an out of uniform day!!

This Boxtop challenge will end on Wednesday, October 3rd, so clean out those drawers, check your pockets and GET US THOSE BOXTOPS!

Remember, each Boxtop is worth 10 cents. Last year, our Home and School Association earned $1300 just from redeeming Boxtops. What a fantastic way to help us out, without spending any extra money!!

Fun Run and Tailgate Party
 Friday, September 21st.

We can’t wait to celebrate with all of you!
