Tenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Reading I : Genesis 3:9-15

God confronts Adam and Eve after they have eaten of the tree.

• This First Reading explains the presence of sin and evil in the world.
• God did not intend for sin and evil to enter the world when he created everything as “good.”
• Humans are so vulnerable to sin that we have consistently used the gift of free will to choose our own will rather than follow God’s will.

Reading II : 2 Corinthians 4:13-5:1

God has an eternal dwelling place for us in heaven.

• Paul fearlessly proclaimed his faith; even though his physical body was weak, his inner faith was strong.
• Our affliction is temporary.
• Look to the future when we will have eternal life.

Gospel : Mark 3:20-35

Whoever does the will of God is my brother and sister and mother.

• In this Gospel, Jesus’ family thinks he is out of his mind and the religious leaders accuse him of being possessed by the devil.
• Jesus responds with a parable explaining that a power that battles against itself is bound to collapse.
• Jesus says that doing God’s will is what binds people to Jesus.

A Message from

Mr. Oberdorf, Principal

The 2023-24 school year has come to an end. As the school year comes to an end I would like to thank you for choosing SJE.and thank you for your support in helping make SJE great. We are truly a community modeling and nurturing Catholic values and academic excellence in partnership with families. Thank you to anyone who helped in any way this year to strengthen our school community. Please know your help is greatly appreciated. 

As we end our 2023-24 school year there are mixed emotions. The ending of the school year is a celebration of the successes, the recognition of the changes in our community moving forward,  and the beginning of preparation for the next school year. As much as it is a time of joy, there is some sadness knowing that this specific group of students, families, and staff will meet for the last time on June 7. 

One of the members of our SJE school family, our 4th grade teacher Mrs. Thiel, will be leaving us for a new adventure with the library. She has helped many students grow in faith and knowledge throughout her long career as an educator. SJE was truly blessed to have had her be part of our school community and she will be missed. A big shout out to Mrs. Thiel for all she has done to make the world a better place. 

Next Year

Our 2024-25 school year begins with book and supply drop off on August 26  between 8:00 and 11:00. Our 2024-25 school year calendar is posted on our website. Please keep an eye out for the summer mailing in early August with information about returning to school in the fall.

Festival Fish Fry and Chicken Dinner Volunteers Needed

The SJE Parish Festival is July 26-28th. There are many opportunities to volunteer to help. One way is to help with the fish fry on Friday and/ or the chicken dinner on Sunday. It is a great way for students in grades 5-8 to earn service hours. Please use the link below to sign up to help.

Last Day of School June 7th

Our last day of school for the 2023-24 school year is June 7th. Please join us for our final school Mass of the 2023-24 school year at 10:00. We will dismiss at 11:00.

Soccer and Volleyball Registration Opened Now!

If you plan for your child to play soccer or volleyball at the beginning of the 2024-25 school year please register today. Soccer is available for students in grades K5-8th and volleyball is available for girls in grades 5-8. Please do not wait. Sign up today.

SJE is Headed to a Milwaukee Milkmen’s Game

August 3, 2024 6:00

Please join us at the Milkmen game. The Milwaukee Milkmen are an independent baseball team based in Franklin, Wisconsin. They are members of the American Association of Professional Baseball, an official Partner League of Major League Baseball. They began play in 2019 and play home games at Franklin Field

Our Home and School Committee has set up another opportunity to come together as a community while at the same time earning some money for our school. A  percentage of ticket sales sold using our special link will be donated to our school. It will be a fun evening of socializing and baseball. The game is August 3 at 6:00. It would be great to see everyone at the game.

Registration for the 2024-25 school year is happening now. If have any friends or family that you would like to refer to St. John the Evangelist School, please do so.

We are more than happy to set up an appointment to tour the school or register. If there are any questions please contact the school office at 414-321-8540.

Choice Registration



Open enrollment period for the Milwaukee Choice Program will run from June 1-June 20. 

Families must reapply to the program each year. Please log into the Choice website and complete the process.

Register for Safe Environment

The Archdiocese of Milwaukee has a partnership with Catholic Mutual Group to provide Safe Environment Education. All participants must register online. If interested, please register on the archdiocesan website https://www.archmil.org/home.

View a listing of upcoming safe environment education sessions.

You must complete this class in order to volunteer in the school or accompany students on any field trips.

Scrip is available at all weekend Masses or during regular business hours at the parish office. You may also use the RaiseRight App (below).
