Family Prayer

Solemnity of Christ the King

Reading I : Daniel 7:13-14

The Son of Man will come on a cloud.

  • The reading from Daniel is part of a vision of the victory of God’s kingdom over all human kingdoms.
  • The kingdom of God appears as a human who comes from heaven, God’s domain.
  • God presents everlasting kingdom, power and glory to the human (“son of man”).

Reading II : Revelation 1:5-8

Jesus is the faithful witness.

  • The Book of Revelation, written during the Roman persecution at the end of the first century, looks forward to the return of Jesus and the establishment of God’s kingdom.
  • The reading portrays Jesus as the Son of Man, the witness to the truth of resurrection and the hope for everlasting life.
  • Jesus is the victor over all earthly rulers and has made God’s people into a royal nation, a nation of priests.

Gospel : John 18:33b-37

My kingdom does not belong to this world.

  • The Gospel of John presents Christ the King in a different light.
  • During his lifetime Jesus bears the title of ruler only at his most vulnerable moments.
  • Jesus rejects the title, “King of the Jews,” that Pilate gave to him because his kingdom is not of this world, he is the Messiah sent from heaven.

A Message from Mr. Oberdorf

Jackets, gloves, and hats

As we move toward winter, students need to dress for the weather. Please send your child with a jacket, hat, and gloves. Waterproof gloves are preferred. It is better to have these things and not need them than to need them and not have them. We do have a limited amount of items to loan out in emergency situations, but not enough for everyone.

Snow reminder- snow pants and boots

When it snows only students with snow pants and boots will be able to play in the snow at recess. Students without boots and snow pants will only be able to play on the black top areas. Most of our children love to play on the snow piles and in the snow so please send your child with the needed gear.

School closing due to weather conditions

Closing of school due to weather conditions is done in conjunction with the Greenfield School District. The policy is: If the Greenfield School District is closed, so are we. If Greenfield School District has a BUS Delay, our school will still open on time. For any emergency closing at St. John's, we will contact you via email and our school website. Normally, we will not close school in the middle of the day. You may pick your child up if the Greenfield School District closes early.

4th Grade Teacher Search

The 4th grade teacher search has come to an end. Ms. Lisiecki has accepted the position. Due to other commitments, her first day will be Monday, January 27th.

Until then the 4th grade will continue to be taught by the team of Mrs. Cone, Mrs. Girard, and Mr. O.

No Propping Open Doors

Doors should not be propped open at any time. All open doors must be supervised at all times. This includes before, during and after school. If waiting for students to arrive for an after school activity please have an adult at the door to allow students to enter. Thank you for your cooperation.

Secure in place/ lockdown drill

Students participated in a lockdown drill on Tuesday, November 19. Students did a great job during the drill. Since our students participated in the drill, it is a good time to reshare our secure in place and lockdown procedures with you.

Please read the information below for an overview of our secure and place and lockdown procedures.

Secure In Place (soft lockdown)

Signals “Secure in Place” stated 3 times

This lockdown procedure will be used in cases where there is no imminent danger within our building. Examples of times when secure in place might be used:

  • The need for emergency personnel (paramedics, etc.) to be in our building
  • Custody issues (non-custodial parent seeking entry into the building)
  • Neighborhood issues (notification of nearby robbery, police chase, etc.)

Secure in place will be announced over the PA. Teachers should close, lock classroom doors and cover the door's window. Students who are out of the room at the time that a secure in place lockdown is announced should be allowed to enter the room. No student or adult should leave the room once the announcement has been made. Students will not leave classrooms to change classes, to get class materials from the hallway, etc., until the end of the secure in place has been announced.

All Clear Signal: “All Clear”

Lockdown

Signals “Lock Down” stated 3 times

When a full building lockdown is called via the PA, it will be up to the classroom teacher to determine whether to hide in the classroom or to exit the classroom and the building.

In a situation where the teacher determines that it is appropriate to flee the building, students will line up, hold hands, and exit together. It will be up to the teacher to decide where to go upon leaving the building, depending on the situation. Teachers should have cell phones and class emergency folders with them as they exit. Regardless of the direction chosen, students should continue to hold hands. Move as far away from the building and head into the neighborhood away from the open SJE fields as quickly as possible.

Should a teacher determine that the safest plan is to hide, students and teachers should move to the back of the classroom, away from the door and windows.

Students must remain quiet and in place until the door is opened by emergency personnel or administration.

Rosary Night

Many of our students participated in a family Rosary night on November 15th. A big shout out  to Home and School committee member Kellie Kilmer and parish member Bob Hogan for putting together an evening of prayer, learning, and fun for our students. The Rosary was explained to our children and they watched a video about Our Lady of Fatima before praying the Rosary. Students were excited to pray and many volunteered to lead others in prayer. Students who volunteered to lead a decade received a Crumble cookie. The evening ended with cupcakes and time to socialize. Thanks again to Mrs. Kilmer, Mr. Hogan, and our Home and School Committee for hosting the event.

Please keep an eye out for information about our next Rosary night!!!
