No Propping Open Doors
Doors should not be propped open at any time. All open doors must be supervised at all times. This includes before, during and after school. If waiting for students to arrive for an after school activity please have an adult at the door to allow students to enter. Thank you for your cooperation.
Secure in place/ lockdown drill
Students participated in a lockdown drill on Tuesday, November 19. Students did a great job during the drill. Since our students participated in the drill, it is a good time to reshare our secure in place and lockdown procedures with you.
Please read the information below for an overview of our secure and place and lockdown procedures.
Secure In Place (soft lockdown)
Signals “Secure in Place” stated 3 times
This lockdown procedure will be used in cases where there is no imminent danger within our building. Examples of times when secure in place might be used:
- The need for emergency personnel (paramedics, etc.) to be in our building
- Custody issues (non-custodial parent seeking entry into the building)
- Neighborhood issues (notification of nearby robbery, police chase, etc.)
Secure in place will be announced over the PA. Teachers should close, lock classroom doors and cover the door's window. Students who are out of the room at the time that a secure in place lockdown is announced should be allowed to enter the room. No student or adult should leave the room once the announcement has been made. Students will not leave classrooms to change classes, to get class materials from the hallway, etc., until the end of the secure in place has been announced.
All Clear Signal: “All Clear”
Lockdown
Signals “Lock Down” stated 3 times
When a full building lockdown is called via the PA, it will be up to the classroom teacher to determine whether to hide in the classroom or to exit the classroom and the building.
In a situation where the teacher determines that it is appropriate to flee the building, students will line up, hold hands, and exit together. It will be up to the teacher to decide where to go upon leaving the building, depending on the situation. Teachers should have cell phones and class emergency folders with them as they exit. Regardless of the direction chosen, students should continue to hold hands. Move as far away from the building and head into the neighborhood away from the open SJE fields as quickly as possible.
Should a teacher determine that the safest plan is to hide, students and teachers should move to the back of the classroom, away from the door and windows.
Students must remain quiet and in place until the door is opened by emergency personnel or administration.
