Family Prayer

Third Sunday of Advent

Reading I : Zephaniah 3:14-18a

Rejoice, for the Lord is in your midst.

  • The prophet Zephaniah preached during a difficult time in Israel’s history.
  • Zephaniah told his listeners that the day of the Lord would be a joyless day because they had not been faithful.
  • The faithful remnant, who knew their only hope was in God, would be saved.

Reading II : Philippians 4:4-7

Rejoice in the Lord always.

  • The sense of excitement at the arrival of the Lord continues in the second reading.
  • Paul calls the Philippians to joy and peace because of the coming of the Lord.
  • They should live their lives as a people saved by the mercy and love of God.

Gospel : Luke 3:10-18

John the Baptist announces the coming of the Messiah.

  • At the time the Gospel of Luke was written, Christians had begun to realize that Christ’s return might not be immediate.
  • They needed to learn how to live in readiness, to be aware that their own deaths might come before the day of the Lord.
  • Today’s passage instructs people to live justly within their work.

A Message from Mr. Oberdorf

Winter is now here!

Winter is now here, please make sure your student has warm clothing for recess, i.e. winter coat, snow pants, boots, hat, scarf, and gloves. We will always go out for recess unless the Real Feel Temperature is 0 Degrees or below. Waterproof gloves help to keep hands warm.

Calendar Raffle

Please turn in all calendars from the calendar raffle. If you have sold all of your calendars, please turn the money and stubs to the school office. Our goal is to sell all available calendars. If you have unsold calendars, please return them to the school office as soon as possible so we may sell them before and after Mass, at other school or parish events, and to visitors to our school and parish. Thank you for your help in making the calendar raffle a success.

Thank you

Thank you for supporting our Home and School’s fundraisers. The money raised supports many school events including the fun run/ tailgate party, VIP Day celebration, and end of the year picnic. The money raised also pays for school buses for field trips, some of the school’s printing costs, and many other things.

READING ROCKSTARS!!!!!

Each month students in grades 2-8 set reading goals. The class with the highest percentage of students reaching their goals receives the traveling trophy for the month. Our 3rd graders went back to back months as our Reading Rockstars! Congrats on your October and November wins!!

Advent

Our Advent theme is “Be the Light of Christ” inspired by Matthew 5:16 “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven.” Each day, our students receive an Advent mission (prayer or action) to complete. The mission is introduced each day during announcements by a member of our NJHS student leadership team. When a class or student completes the daily mission they add “light” (a small piece of yellow paper) to our bulletin board Advent wreath. As our students complete their daily missions, they are setting their souls on fire for God during the season of Advent.
