  • What other signs do we have that lead us to Jesus? 
  • Why do you think that the world is not completely transformed by God’s abundant goodness as Jesus wanted it to be? 
 

Please consider reading the upcoming Sunday gospel together as a family. The questions above are good conversation starters as you prepare your children for weekly mass.  

A Note from the Principal:  
 
Dear SJE Parents, 

Each year, during the last week of January, we celebrate Catholic Schools Week. This week is a wonderful opportunity to remind our students of the special blessing given to them by their parents – the opportunity for a Catholic Education. 

This year, as has been our practice, we will kick off Catholic Schools Week with our annual open house on Saturday, January 26th, from 3:00 to 4:30 PM. All classrooms will be open, and teachers will be ready with activities for your students. Families are then invited to join us for 4:30 mass, and, of course, to attend our spaghetti dinner beginning immediately after mass.   Out of uniform passes will be available for any child who attends Open House, mass, and our spaghetti dinner in their school uniform. Simply check in with any school staff member to receive your pass.  

Last week’s newsletter contained an invitation for the spaghetti dinner. Although there is no cost for this event, your RSVP will help us to plan food.   

In addition, help from our families is needed to make this event a success. Earlier today, you received a sign up genius email asking for dessert donations. These desserts will certainly make our spaghetti dinner even more special!

Our Book Fair is Coming!  

Next week, our students will have the opportunity to add to their book collections when we host our first annual Rainbow Book Fair.    

This year’s fair, sponsored by Rainbow Children’s Books, will offer a wider selection of books to meet the growing interests of our students. This “book only” event, will have something to pique the interest of all of our readers - fiction, non-fiction, and even a few adult selections.  

Students will have the opportunity to visit the book fair at school on Tuesday. They will create a “wish list” of books, which they will bring home to you. Opportunities to actually purchase books will be available on Thursday morning. Simply send cash or a check made out to St. John the Evangelist, along with the wish list to school with you child on Thursday morning. Classroom teachers will bring students to the book fair to make their purchases.  

In addition, the book fair will be open throughout parent teacher conferences on Thursday. Please consider stopping by before or after your conferences to check out our amazing selection. We will accept cash, checks, or credit card payments during conferences.  

One last opportunity to purchase form our book fair will be available on Saturday, January 26 th , during our Open House.  

Do you have a special book that you are dying to read? Don’t see what you are looking for at the book fair? Special orders of both children’s and adult books will be available. All we need is a title and the name of the author.          
 

Parent Teacher Conferences 

Today’s paper envelope contains a copy of your child’s mid-trimester grades (grades one through eight) and your conference slip (grades K4 through 8). Please note that all students, in grades K4 through 8, will have a conference next Thursday, January 24 th . Parent and student attendance at conferences is mandatory. If you have questions or a problem with your scheduled conference time, please contact the school office at 414-321-8540.  
Re-enrollment 
Planning  

Re-enrollment paperwork for the 2019-2020 school year will be sent home next week. Your prompt return of this paperwork allows us to easily plan for appropriate staffing and materials for the upcoming year. Please return the paperwork as quickly as possible.

Parental Choice Program Update  

The first enrollment period for the  Milwaukee Parental Choice Program  period will begin on Friday, February 1 st . Current participating families must re-enroll for the upcoming year,and are encouraged to complete all necessary paperwork during the February enrollment period. Do you have questions about re-enrollment? Call the school office. We can help. 

Is your family part of the  Wisconsin Parental Choice Program?   The re-enrollment period runs from February 1 st  through April 20 th . Current participating families must re-enroll for the upcoming year, and are encouraged to complete all necessary paperwork as soon as the enrollment period begins. You are encouraged to apply early to guarantee a seat for your child.

Futsal and Track Registration Open

Registration is now open for Futsal (K5-Grade 4) and Track (Grades 5-8). Please sign up at Blue Sombrero . The deadline for signups is March 1st. Please see the flyers on the Thursday Folder page. If you have any questions, please contact Trisha Jambor at AssistantAD@sje.k12.wi.us .
