Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

God's Promise is Bodily Resurrection

Questions for Family Discussion:

  • Jesus told us about the “end times”. What does He mean?
  • How do we prepare for the “end times”?

Please consider reading the upcoming Sunday gospel together as a family. The questions above are good conversation starters as you prepare your children for weekly mass.
A Note from the Principal:

Dear SJE Parents,

Our first trimester will end on Monday, November 26th. Students in grades one through eight will receive their first report cards on Thursday, November 29th. Of course, we strongly suggest our parents to check their child’s grades on PowerSchool regularly. All parents of students in grades one through eight should have a PowerSchool password set up.

I encourage you to review the trimester report with your student. Consider areas of success, and areas where there is need for additional growth.  Making a plan to improve performance in a particular class and then following through on that plan together can be very beneficial to a child.

Although we held conferences at the middle of the trimester, parents are welcome to set up a meeting with their child’s teacher in the event of questions or concerns. Please feel free to contact the classroom teacher to set up a time to meet.  Our teachers welcome input from parents regarding classroom performance.

Because of the Thanksgiving holiday, we will not be sending out a newsletter next week. We wish all our families safe travels and plenty of relaxing family time over the holiday weekend.

Growing in God’s Love,

Mary Laidlaw Otto
Principal

Cookie Walk
Your help is needed to make our second annual SJE Home and School Cookie Walk a success. Each family is asked to donate at least one (two or three would be wonderful) batch of cookies or bars to be sold at weekend masses on December 15th and 16th.

The more cookies you donate, the more money that will be raised by our Home and School. Cookie Walk proceeds will be used to fund family activities provided by our Home and School.

Today’s paper folder includes a signup sheet. Please complete the sheet and return it to the school office by Monday, November 26th, letting us know how many cookies or bars you will be able to provide. All cookies should be delivered to the school office on Friday morning, December 14th.

Guinness World Record Cup Stacking at SJE

On November 8 during PE classes our students were a part of the Record attempt for “Most People Sport Stacking at Multiple Locations in One Day.” The goal was 635,000! We have received no word yet on if that record was broken. Grades 2-8 competed for class champions, shown in this photo. Missing the photo were Phil in 7th grade and Estephany in 5th grade. Congratulations to all of our stackers!
Snack Cart Update - Thank-you for supporting our Snack Cart. Sales on Tuesdays and Thursdays have been brisk and will begin again after Thanksgiving.

No Snack Cart sales next Tuesday!

We could use some adult help in supervising our students at the cart from 7:20am-7:40am on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you would like to help please contact the office or Ms. Starks, jstarks@sje.k12.wi.us .
Early Childhood Programming

BRRRR!
The unseasonably cold weather is a reminder that winter is on its way.
We enjoy outdoor recess whenever the wind chill is above 0° F.
Therefore, we ask that all students come prepared with the following items:

Warm jacket, Snow pants, Boots, Hats, Mittens

Please remember, we DO NOT allow students to share hats or mittens.
Students MUST have their own supplies.
Please label all winter gear clearly with your child’s first and last name.
This is so helpful in reuniting lost clothing with our students.

Winter Snow Closing Days
Please remember that in case of extreme weather conditions, St. John will close when the Greenfield Public Schools close.    We do not generally list St. John the Evangelist separately on television or radio.
Please listen for the Greenfield Public Schools. Tune into any local radio or television station to check for closings or log onto any of the following:
www.wisn.com

For even more up to date information, we also post closings on our school and parish website,  www.sje.k12.wi.us   as well as our school Facebook page:
St John the Evangelist Catholic School, Greenfield

In addition, we send an email out to our parent list
as soon as we know school will be closing for the day.
Piano Lessons

SJE offers piano lessons during the school day for enrolled students. If you are interested in having your child participate in piano lessons, please call the school office at 414-321-8540. We will put you in touch with Linda Kowalski, our piano teacher.
Winter Fundraisers Are Due November 21st

We are getting ready to wrap up our winter fundraisers. This year, we are offering three choices to our families – See's Candies, Colectivo Coffee, and Rubi Red Cranberry products. All three of these choices make great gifts, and, of course, all will be delivered in time for Christmas. All payments, regardless of which item is ordered, must be sent in to the school office with completed order forms no later than Wednesday, November 21st. Please make all checks payable to St. John the Evangelist.
