Feast of the Presentation of the Lord

There will come to the temple the Lord whom you seek.
  • Malachi was faithful to his Jewish faith; yet, he was critical of the priesthood of his time.
  • God visits the temple.
  • God’s visit results in purification of both the sacrifices and the ministers.

He had to become like his brothers and sisters in every way.
  • Jesus shares in the flesh and blood of humanity.
  • Jesus is the compassionate high priest.
  • Because Jesus suffered he is able to help those who suffer.

My eyes have seen your salvation.
  • Jesus grew up in a devout Jewish family and society.
  • Simeon predicts that Jesus will cause conflict and division within Israel.
  • Simeon and Anna knew that Jesus was God’s promised Redeemer.
A Message from
Mrs. Laidlaw Otto

Dear SJE Families;

This past week has been a flurry of activities for our children as well as for our families.
Beginning with our Catholic Schools’ Week Open House and Spaghetti Dinner, and continuing through our busy week of activities, various members of our school and parish communities spent countless hours planning, cooking, setting up and tearing down. There is nowhere near enough room in this newsletter to list all of the volunteers who work to make all of these events a success. Thank you to all who contributed to the success of any of these events. Our volunteers make our community strong and successful, and we are so grateful to all of them!

Go Forth and Be a Blessing!

Mary Laidlaw Otto
Enrollment Update

Re-enrollment paperwork for the 2020-2021 school year is included in today’s paper envelope. Since we do not have our tuition number for next year finalized, we will be sending the tuition contract and authorization form at a later date. Your paper envelope contains our re-registration form. Please fill this form out promptly so that we can begin to plan for next year. Please call the school office at 321-8540 to schedule a time to speak with me if you have further questions.
  Open House Out of Uniform
Did your child receive a coupon for
an out of uniform day while at Open House?
These coupons may be used next week, throughout the week, excluding Wednesday. If your coupon has been lost or misplaced, don’t worry. Just have them stop into the office on their chosen day.
Parental Choice Program Update
The first enrollment period for the  Milwaukee Parental Choice Program  period will begin on Monday, February 3rd! Current participating families must re-enroll and are encouraged to complete all necessary paperwork during the February enrollment period. Do you have questions about re-enrollment? Call the school office. We can help.

Is your family part of the  Wisconsin Parental Choice Program?   The re-enrollment period runs from February 3rd through April 16th. Current participating families must re-enroll for the upcoming year and are encouraged to complete all necessary paperwork as soon as the enrollment period begins. You are encouraged to apply early to guarantee a seat for your child.
Health Update
We have been blessed with a healthy community so far this winter. However, daily news reports remind us that winter illnesses are definitely here. This is the perfect time to remind you about our policies for illness.

Parents are asked to keep students home with symptoms including diarrhea or vomiting. The students need to stay home until they have been symptom free, without medication, for 24 hours. Students recovering from a stomach virus should also be able to eat normally.

Similarly, families are asked to keep students home if they are exhibiting symptoms of influenza including headache, body aches, sore throat, and fever. Students will be sent home from school if their fever is over 100°, or if they are exhibiting significant discomfort at school. We ask that you help to keep our students and teachers healthy by keeping your child home from school until they have been fever free, without medication, for 24 hours.

We take special precautions to keep our school clean by disinfecting bathrooms, water fountains, and high traffic areas of the classrooms and hallways. You can help by keeping your sick children home until they are feeling ready for the challenges of school.
Our Egg Drop Stem Challenge was a huge success.  Our multi-age buddy teams worked together to provide a safe landing for their eggs.  We had so much fun with this event that our students want to try it again next year! Thanks to all who provided materials to keep our eggs safe. We dropped a total of 37 eggs off of the (very high) roof of our gym. There were 13 eggs that survived the drop.

Congratulations to these teams who kept their eggs safe!
