Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time

Reading I : Deuteronomy 4:1-2, 6-8

Hear the decrees which I am teaching you.

• For the authors of Deuteronomy, Israel's tragic situation was the result of its infidelity and disobedience.
• The solution to Israel's problem was conversion and obedience.
• Israel's greatness lies not in its own strength but in God who remains faithful.

Reading II : James 1:17-18, 21b-22, 27

Welcome the word which has taken root in you.

• The Letter of James encourages us to welcome the word that has been planted in us.
• We are the first fruit of God's new creation and thus set apart for God.
• The evidence of this new life is seen in how we deal with others.

Gospel : Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23

This people pays me lip service.

• The Pharisees in today's Gospel were especially concerned with food laws and purity laws because these were what distinguished Israel from the Gentile nations.
• Jesus points out that some of the things many Pharisees cling to so tenaciously are human traditions and not the law of God.
• The more serious matter is God's command to love one's neighbor.

Welcome Back

Welcome Back! The new school year is here! We had a great first few days and we are looking forward to a great school year. Our staff will serve 165 students this year. We are ready to join you as we  guide our children on their faith journeys and push them to academic excellence. Our staff was all smiles in anticipation of the 2024-25 school year. 

Parent Night- Thursday, August 29 6:30PM School Cafeteria

Please enter on northside of the building at door #13.

Parents will have an opportunity to meet new and returning staff members. The evening will consist of a general information session and two 20 minute sessions. The general session will be held in the cafeteria. The two 20 minute sessions will be held in your child’s classroom. Your child’s teacher will share grade specific information as well as answer any questions you may have to help your child have a successful start to the 2024-25 school year. 

The class with the highest percentage of parent participation will receive an out of uniform pass. Be sure to sign in. 

Friday, August 30 Early Dismissal Day

We dismiss at 11:00 on Friday, August 30 There will be no after school care on early dismissal days. 

Christmas Concert Date Change

Our Christmas concert date has been changed to Thursday, December 19. The change was due to our new music arrangement with the Conservatory. Please mark your calendars and include the information in your weekly newsletter.

Snack cart will be on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.

It will start the week of Labor Day. First day will be September 3rd.

Cost will continue to be $.50/item or a card with 11 punches for $5.

Both forms include our school uniform approved hoodless sweatshirts which may be worn during the school day.

The St. John the Evangelist Church Blood Drive will be held September 9, 2024 in the church hall. Please see the flyer to schedule a time to give the gift of blood.

The Archdiocese of Milwaukee has a partnership with Catholic Mutual Group to provide Safe Environment Education. All participants must register online. If interested, please register on the archdiocesan website https://www.archmil.org/home.

You must complete this class in order to volunteer in the school or accompany students on any field trips.

Scrip is available at all weekend Masses or during regular business hours at the parish office. You may also use the RaiseRight App (below).
