Family Prayer

Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Reading I : Isaiah 35:4-7a

Be strong! Fear not!

  • Today’s reading from Isaiah looks forward to a coming age of glory, when all Israel’s infirmities will be abolished.
  • This will be the age of the messiah; God’s anointed one, who comes to bring salvation to Israel.
  • The power of evil will no longer manifest itself in sickness or afflictions of any kind.

Reading II : James 2:1-5

Did not God choose the poor to become rich in faith?

  • The reading from James draws our attention to affliction and oppression.
  • If you shun people with physical impairments and those who are poor, you have missed Jesus’ message.
  • Faith in Jesus is expressed by working to free oppressed people.

Gospel : Mark 7:31-37

He makes the deaf hear!

  • Today’s Gospel story portrays Jesus’ healing as the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy.
  • The deaf man with the speech impairment who is brought to Jesus is a Gentile.
  • The man is healed when Jesus touches the parts of him that are weak and impaired.

Parent Night

Thank you to everyone who attended parent night. A big thank you to anyone who helped with set up or cleanup. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. A big shout out to Mrs. Girard and Mrs. Januchowski for doing all the planning, purchasing, organizing, and recruiting necessary to reinvent parent night. I hope all who attended enjoyed their evening, learned important information, and were able to meet some new people and reconnect with old friends.

The class with the highest percentage of parents attending parent night was our 3rd grade class. Our third grade students will have an out of uniform day on Monday, September 9 to celebrate the win!

Planting Day Rescheduled

Our new project, the Meditation Garden, on the north side of the school building, is almost ready to plant! With the help of Villani Landscapers, the garden has been cleared and will be tilled soon. We received many wonderful donations of garden perennials and now need to get them in the ground.

We need help on Saturday, September 21. We will start at 8am. Bring your garden gloves, trowels, and shovels. Come when you are able and stay for as long as you can! If your child (10 years and older) is in need of service hours, send them to help! Contact jehrmann@sje.school if you have any questions.

Our athletic director will be attending a meeting on the evening of September 18 and will be working with other schools to combine teams and fill rosters. SJE Athletic Uniforms- Games Only

Soccer players and volleyball players are assigned uniforms by the SJE athletic committee. These uniforms are to be worn only for games or special days determined by the athletic committee. The uniforms should not be worn for practice or as everyday wear. By only wearing the uniforms on game day, the athletic committee’s hope is the uniforms will remain in good repair for many seasons. Thank you for your cooperation.
