Attendance Increases During
First Month of New School Year

Dec. 27, 2022

According to the Director Ramain Exil, everything at the Ecovillage School has been operating well since the delayed start of the school year on November 28th.  The school started with 96 students in attendance on the first day and increased participation to 265 students by December 23rd. The school has been operating normally despite the situation in Haiti which has not improved substantially over the past few months.  Economic woes and the threat of violence continue but the teachers, parents and children persevere knowing how important education is to the life of the children.

The Director and teachers are working hard to help the children get caught up on their studies after losing so much learning time sitting at home while all schools in Haiti were closed.  The children are home for the holidays and look forward to returning in January.

Jacky Julsaint is a 6th grade student and lives in EcoVillage 2. He tells us that he feels good about school because his teacher gets to school on time and works hard to get him caught up on his lessons.

The Director reports that 95% of the children have a uniform but the remaining 5% do not because their parents do not have the money.  The blue and white uniform is important for all public school students in Haiti and brings a sense of pride and belonging. The Atlanta Group is working with MPP to source uniforms and other school supplies so that no children should be deprived of an education.

Woodberline Désir is a 6th grade student and lives in EcoVillage 1. She loves going to school each day and works very hard at her studies.  She, along with all the students, thank the Atlanta Partnership for their continued support that makes the school possible.

As we are in the Christmas period, the Director of the school and the Directors at MPP wish the Atlanta Partnership a Merry Christmas 2022 and Happy New Year 2023. The children, teachers and staff miss their friends in the States so much. They understand that the political situation of Haiti prevents visitors from coming to Haiti but they hope one day things will calm down and travel to Haiti will be possible again.
