Our School Street project in Lincoln is back from its winter break. Operations will resume next week, requiring a weekday detour on School Street, from Route 126 (Old River Road) to Main Street in Albion, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Local access will be maintained.

Diamond Hill Road and Douglas Pike Bridges over I-295, Cumberland/Smithfield 

At the new Douglas Pike Bridges, we are scheduled to install prefabricated bridge units (PBUs), pour the concrete bridge deck and place concrete for the walls and end posts. Motorists should expect detours on Route 7 North over I-295, Sunday-Thursday nights from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., and frequent vehicle access in/out of the work zone, with brief traffic stoppages to let trucks in and out, Monday-Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. We’ll also have alternating lane closures and short duration closures, of approximately 15 minutes in length as needed on I-295 under Route 7, Sunday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Bridge Group 18C_R – Frenchtown, East Greenwich/ North Kingstown 

Earlier this week on Tuesday, March 17, we reopened the Devil’s Foot Road Bridge (aka the Davisville Railroad Bridge,) which we replaced as part of this project. Next week, motorists can expect alternating lane closures along Route 4 North and South, in the vicinity of Exit 7, for bridge deck demolition at the Frenchtown Road Bridge, Sunday-Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

I-95 15 Bridges, Providence/Cranston/Warwick

Beginning Sunday night, March 22, for approximately two weeks at this project, motorists also can expect lane closures and short duration detours on I-95 South approaching Exit 33 (Route 10), Sunday-Thursday nights. Alternating lane closures will start at this location at 8 p.m., with a full closure of all lanes along I-95 South approaching Route 10 to install steel beams over the highway at the Huntington Viaduct, from midnight to 4:30 a.m. each night. Also starting Sunday night, for about two months, we will begin overnight demolition at the Eddy Street overpass, Sunday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. We apologize in advance for any noise or lighting disruptions this work may cause. Please follow signed detours during all closures.

Post Road & West Main Street Curb & Sidewalk, North Kingstown

We are scheduled to saw cut for drainage and stormwater installation next week at this project requiring alternating one-way traffic, with frequent vehicle access in/out of the work zones and the possibility of temporary restricted access to street parking, driveways/walkways, on Route 1 (Post Road), from Camp Avenue to West Main Street, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Rhode Island Energy’s overnight and weekday gas main installation continues. Motorists can expect partial lane closures with frequent vehicle access in and out of the work zone on Post Road, from Richard Smith Drive to West Main Street, Sunday-Thursday nights, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., and Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 37 Improvements, Cranston/Warwick


Bridge Group 51C: I-295 to Pontiac Avenue and from Amtrak to Post Road

We recently shifted the travel lanes to the left on Route 37 East which will allow us to safely demolish and replace the final portion of the Oaklawn Avenue Bridge. Next week at this project, expect right lane closures for bridge work on Route 37 East over Oaklawn Avenue, and the closure of Oaklawn Avenue under Route 37, Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Bridge demolition also will require the closure of Route 2 (New London Avenue) under Route 37, Monday-Thursday nights from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Other scheduled operations requiring alternating lane closures include continued drainage installation on Post Road at Route 37, Sunday-Thursday nights from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m., and road widening for the Route 37 crossover and median paving on Post Road at Route 37, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Please follow signed detours during all closures.

Route 146 Bridges, Lincoln

As we wait for the concrete to cure, we will form and pour the last remaining section to complete the concrete bridge deck at the Twin River Road Bridge. Next week, crews will pave the slopes on Route 146 North and South under Twin River Road and install rebar reinforcements. They also will form the southwest approach slab, bridge sidewalks, and parapet walls and install bridge curbing. No lane closures are expected.

Route 146 Reconstruction Project, Lincoln/North Smithfield

As we continue building new roadway infrastructure, we have scheduled alternating lane closures on I-295 North and South, from Exit 18A to Exit 18B, Sunday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Based on the operation being performed, we may also need to non-concurrently close access to Route 146 North and South at Exit 18A and Exit 18B off I-295 North and South, and access to I-295 North and South at Exit 8A and Exit 8B off Route 146 North and South, during the same time period.

 

Our ongoing road construction will also require alternating lane closures along Route 146 North and South, from Exit 7 (Route 116) to the Massachusetts line, Sunday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., and on Route 146 North and South, from Exit 10 (Route 146A) to the Massachusetts line, Monday-Friday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists can also expect the nonconcurrent closures of the Route 146 mainline in both directions, from Exit 8A to Exit 8B, with traffic detoured to the service roads, Sunday-Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., and the Route 146 South service road further north between Route 99 and Route 146A, with detours to the Route 146 mainline, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. The Route 146 South service road adjacent to the Sayles Hill Road flyover will remain open to local traffic. Please follow signed detours during all closures.

School Street, Lincoln

Work has resumed at this project as crews install a new sewer main. School Street is once again closed from Route 126 (Old River Road) to Main Street in Albion, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with motorists following the signed detour, and local access maintained.

Warwick Corridor Project

We recently shifted eastbound travel lanes along Route 113 to the right to create a work zone between the eastbound and westbound lanes to construct a new median barrier.  Next week at this project, crews will run the wiring underground and connect it to the traffic signal, plus install precast center barrier on Route 113.  These operations do not require lane closures.

Washington Bridge & I-195, East Providence/Providence 

Construction-related activities continue on the Washington Bridge Rebuild project, with design, survey, permit applications, the ordering of materials and mobilization of equipment.

 

Preconstruction design activities require alternating one-way traffic on Gano Street, from India Street to East Transit Street, Sunday and Monday nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Weather permitting, we are scheduled to close up to two lanes for continued bridge preventative maintenance activities on I-195 West at the Washington Bridge, Tuesday and Thursday nights, March 24 and 26, and March 31 and April 2, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

 

On Monday and Wednesday nights, March 23 and 25, and March 30 and April 1, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., also weather permitting, maintenance crews are scheduled to sweep the interstate, ramps and bridges along I-195, in a moving operation from I-95 to the Massachusetts line.

 

The approved in-water demolition has been completed to the required elevations. Next week, demolition crews will be continuing post-completion inspections and demobilization.
