December 18, 2020
Dear Charter Parents/Guardians,

This week, the Villa Board engaged in deliberations regarding the current COVID situation in light of the approaching holidays. After weighing all of the issues with the safety of students and staff being paramount, the decision was made to extend 100% remote learning for all students for 5 more days than originally planned. With school closed for Martin Luther King Day on Monday, January 18, we will resume in-person instruction on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.

The purpose of having a two-week in-person hiatus is to avoid the possible surge in new cases following the New Year’s holiday. This extended time in remote learning will hopefully offset the necessity to quarantine an entire classroom or manage staff absenteeism should students or staff test positive because of holiday activities.

I again plead with you to consider the unintended consequences that can result from outside of school activities. Please review the recommendations from health officials regarding safety measures to take HERE.

We understand how difficult this will be for some of you. Yet, we believe that due to proactive measures such as these we have been able to avoid outbreaks at school and have kept our community safe.

On-site support services will be available for any students who need to do their remote learning at school during those two weeks. We will have more staff available for on-site support and, therefore, will be able to accept more students. The REGISTRATION FORM for on-site support is available on the website’s COVID page.

Current COVID-19 Cases (In-person)
Currently, we still have one elementary student who had tested positive for the virus. That student’s classroom has ended their quarantine and is back at school. The infant room that was previously quarantined is also back open. We have 1 primary classroom closed for quarantine at this time.

The staff absentee rate:
ECC – 3 (close contacts to a positive child, class quarantined)
Elem II – (1 has symptoms)
The percentage of students experiencing symptoms of COVID-19:
ECC = .03%
Toddler I – 1 student
Toddler II – 1 student
Primary – 2 students
Elem = .02%
Elem I - 3
Elem II – 1
The number of students in quarantine as close contacts (excluding classrooms): 0

The number of in-person students currently positive for COVID:

Primary - 1
Elem I - 1

Classwork Packet Pick-up
Elementary I students – classwork packets will be available for pick up in carline the week of December 28, 2020.

Elementary II Remote Students – classwork packets will be available for pick up in carline the week of December 28, 2020.
