I hope you had time over the holidays to relax, as well as have some fun. The cooler temperatures during the break made it feel more winter-y for me!
Yesterday I sent you some resources to use when talking to your children about difficult topics such as the events that took place in Washington, DC this week. Here is a link to additional resources from an organization called Common Sense Media that will help you provide comfort and information to your children during these challenging times.
For those children that were in attendance over the winter break, the schedule provided a sense of consistency and routine as well as some fun. This week, the private programs are back up and running as usual and I see lots of happy children.
We did have a small number of children here for winter break. The staff kept them entertained and well cared for. With charter students working virtually this week, we have about 24 elementary students on campus receiving on-site support services.
As of today, charter students are scheduled to return to in-person learning on Tuesday, January 19, the day following the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday. Should this change, we will notify the Villa community as soon as possible.
Current COVID-19 Cases
With all charter students working remotely this week, we have limited data to report. Here is what we know as of today:
- Six students (2 primary, 4 elementary) tested positive in the last 2 weeks that we know about. None of those students have been at school since before Winter Break.
- Two staff members tested positive over the break (one E2 staff member and one from primary).
- Eleven ECC families (one infant, 3 Toddler II, and 7 primary families) are voluntarily quarantining following the holidays. Thank you to all of those families.
We would like to collect more data from our families regarding the spread of COVID-19 within our Villa community. If your child has tested positive, is a close contact of someone that has tested positive, or is awaiting test results, please call the office and let them know.
Conference days are Friday, January 15, and Friday, January 22. Teachers will be emailing progress reports over the next two weeks as well as a sign-up genius link to schedule a conference.
Take care and have a wonderful weekend.
