School Year Begins in Cambodia

It is always exciting to see the opening celebrations of the new school year in Cambodia. There is a lot of pomp and ceremony with local dignitaries attending and giving speeches about importance of education. Students and teachers are very proud and elated and so are we. CCDO is directly involved on two school campuses: Tapang Primary and Secondary Schools, (with 861 Students) where we have been active for over 15 years and TaBrok (with 247 students) where we have been active with English and Computers for the past 3 years. Tabrok is generously supported by the HP Foundation.

The TAP initiative generously donated school supplies to the students at TaPang this year.

TAP Initiative

The Tap Initiative is a student-led 501c3 nonprofit organization with 6 chapters based in California. Here is their testimony:

“Our goal is to improve educational inequity and help students around the globe. We reached out to CCDO in early 2024 to help fundraise and raise awareness about their health and education programs. By connecting with them, our team learned about the local Cambodian community’s difficulties such as lacking the resources to obtain education as well as hygiene.

We decided to partner with CCDO because we believe in what they do, and how the programs develop education and hygiene, setting up the students for continued benefit. In the past year, we raised money through lunch fundraisers, selling snacks, and setting up a GoFundMe page.

Additionally, this past September, we hosted our largest event, an annual night market called Tap into the Night. During this event, we were both able to raise money and awareness about the multitude of hardships students face in Cambodia, both in school and outside of it. We will continue to help and support CCDO as their students start school soon.

Recently, as a result of all the members’ hard work, we donated a total of $4,000 to help with their health checkup program as well as to fund much needed school supplies.”

Education Donations needed

Our Dream Team realizes that CCDO needs to have more donations for Education and they have put together some videos to showcase our projects on the ground. They hope you will find them inspirational and worthy of your generous support.

Would you please consider making donations so they can keep the projects going?

KEEP LEARNING ALIVE

New Preschool Toys

Our Ta Pang Preschool munchkins and teachers were delighted to start the new school year with some educational toys and fluffy lovies to play with. An extra duffel bag chock full of used toys from kind families traveled from California with our intern Tabi Hansen. The extra toys that will hardly be missed bring a lot of joy and learning opportunities for Cambodian children, who don't have access to toys in their village homes.

Donors

We have had a few water wells donated in the past few weeks. Kishor Chuan from Coventry UK donated to welcome a new grandchild. We also had a family from Tasmania, Australia, who were visiting the villages and came across our wells and have generously donated a well and plan to add a new one each year.

A water well with the recipient’s name on the board is a perfect holiday gift! Who will you honor in 2024?
