Over the past two weeks, our office has seen a steady stream of visitors as our networking and professional learning opportunities are in full swing.
In that time, we held our first meeting of the year with administrators from our Kane County private and parochial schools. This quarterly check-in allows ROE staff to share ideas and guidance as well as talk through topics and challenges that every institution experiences. Artificial Intelligence in schools, hiring, transportation, licensure, and more were discussed in this session.
We thank our visiting institutions that brought their expertise to our events. The College Board led two workshops for AP teachers, while Waubonsee Community College staff stopped by to share information on their Career and Technical Education programs with school district staff that work with our Alternative Learning Opportunities Program and Regional Safe Schools Programs.
We were also able to connect with our Kane County Human Resources Consortium as well as Regional Superintendents from across Area 1, our district Chief School Business Officers, Communications Directors, Transportation Directors, and Facilities and Safety staff members for our monthly networking meetings.
It is always fulfilling to be among this level of learning and collaboration, and we appreciate how our guests have brought this energy to our office. We are eager to continue to connect with you as the school year progresses.

Gearing up for National School Bus Safety Week | |
National School Bus Safety Week is set for October 21-25, and we encourage our Kane County educators to join us in sharing the fundamentals of keeping our students and staff secure on the road. This evolving education program is designed for students, educators, transportation staff, families, and other motorists to join together to highlight not only best practices when riding the bus, but also when at the bus stop, entering and exiting, and traffic laws when driving near busses.
Resources are available to share in your classroom from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
We also thank West Aurora 129 staff, who recently welcomed us to spend the afternoon at their Transportation Center. We appreciate you giving us the opportunity to capture some content as we prepare for this week and to see your routes in action!

Resilience-Supportive Schools Illinois (RSSI) is a statewide collaborative with Regional Offices of Education to provide free and voluntary support for schools in order to assess and improve current policies, procedures, and practices through a data-informed approach to address the health and wellness of your students.
Schools can benefit from an intensive focus on mental health supports or SEL, while others may benefit from incorporating more trauma-responsive interventions or culturally responsive, anti-racist and equitable practices into their school community.
All participating schools will be given a free digital school-specific snapshot based on the survey results and other publicly available data, including the 5 Essentials Survey. The Kane County Regional Office of Education can assist schools in implementing a needs assessment and an action plan based on this digital snapshot.
