Kane County Regional Spelling Bee Champion reaches national semifinals

We are incredibly proud of Yahya Mohammed, our 2025 Kane County Regional Spelling Champion, for reaching the semifinals of the Scripps National Spelling Bee last week. Yahya, a student at Larsen Middle School in District U-46, earned his second consecutive trip to the competition in Washington D.C. after winning our Regional Bee in March.

He was the last speller remaining from Illinois at the national level, finishing the competition tied for 36th overall. Congratulations on a wonderful performance!

We're hiring!

Kane County Health Department publishes key points from student mental health forum

Our office takes pride in helping students advocate for what they need to receive a successful education and school experience. In February, our Alternative Programs staff collaborated with the Kane County System of Care to host 86 high school students at Elgin Community College for the annual Youth Voices Forum on Mental Health.

The Kane County Health Department recently published its report from the student-led discussions held that day.

Summer may be just arriving, but it has already been an active severe weather season in the midwest. There are plenty of methods you can use to receive updates, with emergency alerts on your mobile device being some of the handiest.

We're dusting off an old, trusty Tuesday Tech Tip to help ensure that you have all the necessary emergency alert settings activated on your phone in case of inclement weather.
