A Collaborative Partnership and Training
CRCSD received a grant to replace 30 school buses, and part of the grant acceptance is a requirement to dispose of the previous buses. The Transportation Department took advantage of this opportunity to collaborate with the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, and offer up the buses for training.
"This is a wonderful opportunity," says Adam Jones, Captain of CRFD Engine 5. "We don't get this opportunity often, to break into these buses and find out what the easiest access point is."
The CRFD will hold another bus training in the spring.
Check out the link below to view a variety of photos from the training.

CRCSD High School Coach Spotlight | |
Edmond Miles
Jefferson Football Coach
Edmond began coaching Jefferson Football this year, and is excited for the opportunity to take a program, lead it, and build it from the ground up. Edmond was previously a Hawkeye Football Player, from 2002- 2006, and coached at Linn-Mar before accepting his head coaching role at Jefferson. He's eager to make an impact in kids' lives, and loves to see the kids working hard, and doing their best every day.
"The best is yet to come," says Edmond.
Cheer on the Jefferson Football Team at their next game tonight at 5pm & 7:15pm at Kingston Stadium.

Robin Fonck
Kennedy Volleyball Coach
Robin has been coaching volleyball at Kennedy for about 13 years now, coaching all levels: freshman, sophomore and JV, and this is her fourth year as the head coach. Robin loves competition, and since volleyball is one of the only sports where a point is awarded every time the ball is dead, it's an intense sport! Robin loves helping young athletes achieve success in something they love to do!
The Kennedy Volleyball Team plays on Saturday, Sept 3rd, at 9am at Washington High School.

"We've got spirit, yes we do! We got spirit, how about you?"
Our high schools are getting their students all geared up for the upcoming school year, and nothing gets you in the mood better than classic all-school pep assemblies.
Jefferson held their assembly on the first day of school, while Kennedy and Washington held theirs this week.
Whether you bleed J-Hawk columbia blue and white, Cougar green and gold or Warrior red and blue, check out the images from the spirit filled assemblies.
