CHAMBER UPDATES | AUGUST 31, 2022

Chamber Members-
It's 5:00am as I draft this month's newsletter and I recognize that I'm a "morning" person. Some of you will relate, because you too seem to be up before dawn, working, walking, planning, or in some cases unable to sleep because of that business challenge that consultants like to say, "keeps you up at night", right? I've been waking up early since I was a kid; no alarm, no set time, just an internal clock that says, you've had enough sleep, it's time to start the next day. I've said over the years that it's both a blessing and a curse, because while I am productive with many tasks, it's hard to enjoy it with anyone else.
As you've also come to find out, I love people. I enjoy our networking events, individual meetings with members and all that goes with my role as your chamber of commerce leader. I have enjoyed working with Debi Cobb and have appreciated all that she has given to our chamber for the past three years. Debi turned in her resignation recently and we wish her well with all that lays ahead for her. Beth Jones has replaced Debi as our new Office Administrator, and I am excited to see how her personality fits with the mission and core focus we have. She came highly recommended from Terry Grear (ScrogginsGrear) and some of you may have met her already. We introduced her at our recent Third Thursday event at High Achievers Aim High.
We also must wish Geoff Milz well as he takes a new position outside of Colerain. He has been a blessing to me over the 2 ½ years that I've been in Colerain, and I know that he has helped our community tremendously as our township administrator. The TeamUpToGreenUp initiative will largely be identified with Geoff, and his welcoming approach made me feel right at home when I arrived. Jeff Weckbach has served as our Township Assistant Administrator, and I know that he will be successful as he takes over Geoff's leadership role.
This week we also say farewell to Colerain Police Chief Mark Denney, who is retiring from the department, and we usher in new Chief Ed Cordie. We will celebrate with the Fire/Police Recognition Breakfast on Friday, September 9th. Please register for that event ($7.00 which includes breakfast) and support our local first responders in a way that honors what they do each and every day. This Fall, we have many events to look forward to through the chamber. We have many celebrations and many activities that you can choose to participate in, they are detailed below.
As seasons change, so do businesses. The Colerain Chamber of Commerce continues to evolve and this October we will celebrate eight years as a chamber. There won't be a big fanfare, maybe we'll do so for our 10th anniversary; however, 8 years is just the beginning for what will be a long-standing partnership for businesses to have with non-profits, schools and government entities across our community. In eight years, we could each have served two terms in office (assuming four-year terms), or we could have gone from graduating eighth grade to graduating college. Many things have changed over eight years, where was your business 8 years ago? What were you doing in the Summer/Fall of 2014?
Greek philosopher Heraclitus and many leaders that followed him confirmed that, "The only thing constant is change". How do you and your business adapt to change? Do you embrace it, even lean into it? Or do you hide from it or are you unable to admit that it needs to take place? Please let me know if you are going through a challenge or a change that is particularly hard, and I'll see if I can help or provide some direction for finding some answers. We are here as a resource and I'm always available to help if I can.
Enjoy the long holiday weekend.
Dave

Supporting Our Community
The Colerain Chamber's core focus is to Connect, Support and Celebrate across our community. We received a nice thank you note from the Goshen Chamber of Commerce after helping them get connected with chainsaws and weed eaters during their tornado cleanup. Additionally, SON Ministry was able to assist with 11 cases of hand sanitizer to help both People Working Cooperatively, but specifically to be used during the upcomin Colerain Giveback Day on October 22nd.
If your organization or business have celebrations or connections that would be of interest to others, please share them with us.

August 24- Butler Tech Open House
Career Connect at Butler Tech...it has a ring to it, doesn't it? Along with many others from the Business Advisory Committee, yesterday I was able to visit classrooms across all of the Butler Tech campuses and high schools.
My focus was 12 classes, yes all 12 in one day at Colerain and Northwest High Schools! Highlights included: an adhoc talk with one class about preparing for presentations, sitting in on a business class, learning how to operate a hospital bed, and getting to tour the very cool Robotics lab at Colerain High.
