From the desk of the Executive Director:
Hi folks! You may not be aware of this but this summer through a partnership with the City of Lake City we are operating their outdoor pool. “Running” a pool is a lot more work than you might think and Nickie Swenson our Aquatics Director has been doing double duty since April to make this work. This requires executing so many details simultaneously that I really don’t have space to list them. Many administrative steps, figuring out deposit protocols, hiring a large staff, training them for safety and lesson quality, daily monitoring, watching the weather every hour, stocking the snack bar, working with the City staff to keep the water chemistry correct and other items too numerous to mention. We had great local leadership there and I am really proud of them for making a strong program and a safe summer.
And to brag a little I included a letter to the Lake City Paper’s Editor-an unsolicited letter I might add from the early morning water fitness participants. I really appreciate their feedback and support. We’ve mostly just had our heads down plugging away at this all summer so it’s really great to get some positive and public feedback. One thing I’d like us to consider is how when government and private non profits work together – truly collaborate frequently 2 plus 2 can equal 3. It’s just a thought that I think can apply many places.
