Be Prepared

Students in grades K-9 begin their school year on Tuesday, September 3. All K-12 students report to school on Wednesday, September 4.

Summer Reading

Reading over the summer not only strengthens previous learning, but lays the groundwork for the next school year. Assignments are required for students entering grades 6-12.

Items for students entering grades K-8 have been organized by grade. High school students will receive their lists from each teacher during the first week of classes.

Health Requirements & Forms

The PA Department of Health requires physicals, dental exams, and immunizations for entry into school and continued attendance.

Transportation Updates

Bussing information will be added to the website the week of August 26. Stay tuned for official schedules.

Elementary school families will also receive bus details in their packets mailed before the first day of school.

Attendance Reporting

SafeArrival makes it easy for you to report your child's absence promptly. Please report absences before the start of the school day, o no later than 11 a.m., to avoid the requirement of submitting a written note (via the App, online, or phone).

School Meals

School meals are a healthy, kid-approved choice! We are excited to announce that there is no increase in school lunch prices this year (elementary lunches: $2.90; middle school lunches: $3.20). Breakfast is free for all K-8 students. Sun Valley meals are a la carte. Menus will be posted at the start of the school year.

New Instructional Calendar

The School Board approved a revised 2024-2025 instructional calendar in June. It includes school closings, in-service days, and holidays. Dates are loaded on the online calendar at PDSD.org. A PDF version is also available.

Kindergarten Events, August 28

Welcome events are scheduled for incoming Kindergarten students on Wednesday, August 28! Look for more information from your building principal about the event at your new school.

Register Today: NMS Viking Day, August 22

This optional half-day camp is a great chance for 6th graders to have fun and build confidence before school starts.

NMS Information Day, August 22

All middle school students and their parents/guardians are invited to come to school on Thursday, August 22 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. to pick up schedules, fill out forms, and take school photos. Note: This event is different from Viking Day for rising 6th grade students.
