Eyes on the Arizona Mission Offering: Love Baptist Church ‘refocuses’ on mission

At a leadership summit in January, ministry teams at Love Baptist Church in Phoenix gathered to consider the year ahead.

The church’s senior pastor, Adam Henry, shared new vision and mission statements and a focus for the year — Love Baptist Church would be “a place for everyone — a place to belong and a place to serve.”

“[The leadership summit] was a great opportunity for all the people who serve in various teams to get a real picture of the body of Christ in action,” Henry said. It also provided an opportunity for each ministry to consider how God might use that ministry to accomplish the church’s mission.

That emphasis on shared mission came out of the church’s participation in the months-long ReFocus process. ReFocus is funded in part by Arizona Southern Baptists’ gifts to the Arizona Mission Offering. Church revitalization is one of the eight offering categories.

ZonaMen’s Conference explores #butGOD theme

This year’s ZonaMen’s Conference was a powerful and life-changing event. The conference was attended by about 150 men from around the state and was held and hosted by Cross Church in Surprise on Aug. 26.

This one-day event featured Jeremy Freeman, an author, speaker and pastor of First Baptist Church in Newcastle, Oklahoma. The theme was #butGOD, which is also the title of Freeman’s testimonial of God’s grace throughout the near-death experience of his teenage son, Caleb.

During the sessions, Jeremy and Caleb shared messages of suffering, miracles and God’s power to overcome grief and hardship. Ten years ago, Jeremy lost his 7-year-old son, Trey, to a long battle with cancer, and, just a few years later, he almost lost Caleb in a car accident. It was through Caleb’s miraculous recovery and journey of faith #butGod came about.

Caroline Anderson

Den and Dimi are Ukrainian refugees displaced by the war between Ukraine and Russia. Caroline Anderson met their family during the height of the conflict when refugees poured over the borders to Romania. This family found refuge in a Baptist church. The church offered support on many levels: food, safety, counseling, and some even gave up their own mattresses so families like Den and Dimi’s had something to sleep on at the church. They shared the love of Jesus both verbally and through action. While the boys’ parents were not Christians, the missionary and local believers poured into them and helped to get them connected with another church in the country they were immigrating to. These connections are vital for re-establishing life away from the war, and allow for the body of Christ to continue gospel conversations. Your financial support through the Cooperative Program strengthens missionaries so that they can spread the Gospel around the world. Pray that God would strengthen, protect, and give peace to families like Den and Dimi’s for the glory of God.
