School Reopening and Vaccines
California may be an unusual state when it comes to students returning to school. Two weeks ago my granddaughters returned to in-person instruction for this first time since the pandemic caused CA schools to close in March 2020. Today they start in-person instruction for 5 days a week for 2 1/2 hours a day.
This may seem foreign to schools that began last August (which the schools did near the Peaceful Playgrounds office in Southwest Missouri). They seem to be unique and their students "the lucky ones".
It is disappointing that upon the late return, many districts in California are cutting physical education for various reasons in the shortened schedules. This troubling trend does not seem to be as prevalent in other states.
Help may be on the way to getting students back in school full-time and for reinstating physical education minute requirements. The help is in the form of vaccines. Some states have lower the age for vaccines to 16 years old. Two vaccines may also be available sometime this summer or early fall for students as young as 12 years old. Last week Pfizer announced that its vaccine was 100% effective in safe for children as young as 12 years.
Now the important question is, "Will parents have their child vaccinated?" only time will tell.......
