The school campuses may be closed, but Communities In Schools of the Dallas Region (CISDR) is still open for business and working with students every day. Your donation in this time of crisis is more critical than ever.
COVID-19 Response: Mental Health Support for Safer Students, Stronger Schools
For students, social distancing and school closures related to COVID-19 means sustained social isolation, a loss of support networks, and a profound disruption of the routines they rely on to make sense of the world. Similarly, COVID-19 has financially devastated families, many of whom were struggling already, creating more tension within the family unit. During times of crisis/uncertainty, children require guidance on how to effectively deal with trauma and develop resilience, support which may be lacking in the home.

COVID-19 Resource Center
With the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic ongoing, we have reached out to our network of community partners, service providers, and school districts. By coordinating and collaborating with schools, districts, and other nonprofits, we have compiled a resource list to help with basic needs, online learning, and mental/ behavioral health. See below to learn more. To see the full list, please visit our COVID-19 Resource Center at cisdallas.org/covid19.
Tips for Surviving at Home
by Maddie Worley, LMSW, Senior Clinical Services Coordinator
“This feels a lot like 9/11” is what my mom told me as I called to check in with my parents after, one-by-one, cities in Texas started shutting down and implementing “shelter-in-place” policies. I was still a kid when September 11, 2001 happened, but I was in a foreign country, and the uncertainty we felt then is eerily familiar now.

How can we create some normalcy in the midst of chaos? I am not an expert in any of this, but here are some things that have helped me.

Guidance from the CDC Regarding COVID-19
The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) may be stressful for people. Fear and anxiety about a disease can be overwhelming and cause strong emotions in adults and children. Coping with stress will make you, the people you care about, and your community stronger. Everyone reacts differently to stressful situations. How you respond to the outbreak can depend on your background, the things that make you different from other people, and the community where you live.
