The 1099 tax forms for each of your investment accounts will be available soon. Schwab has begun sending the tax documents and they plan to send all of them by Feb. 29. Please note that you will receive 1099s from both TD Ameritrade and Schwab for accounts that had taxable activity at both companies.
The 1099s for both TD Ameritrade and Schwab will be posted on your Schwab website access through client.schwab.com. You can access them by logging in and viewing the “1099 Dashboard” under the Statements tab. This will show all your accounts that will generate a 1099 and the expected date(s) they will be available. The tax documents will also be mailed to you unless you have set your delivery preferences to paperless.
Please be advised that your 1099-R for Traditional IRA accounts will reflect all distributions, including qualified charitable distributions (QCDs) and amounts converted to Roth IRAs. The QCDs are not taxable but your tax preparer will need to be notified of this amount to not include on your tax return. Your tax preparer should also be notified of any amounts converted to a Roth IRA from a non-deductible IRA which could reduce the taxable amount.
Please be aware that corrections sometimes need to be made to the 1099s after the originals have been sent. To avoid the risk of having to file an amended return, it might be wise to wait on filing your taxes until most corrected 1099s are issued in early to mid-March.
If you would like to make sure that you have received all your 1099s or would like us to send them directly to your tax preparer, please contact your financial planning team.
Sincerely,
Your Syverson Strege Team
