Sci-ROI is happy to announce that new Global Leadership team is here! The new team is diverse than before comprising of chemists, biologists, engineers, entrepreneurs and STEM operation specialists. The team is currently planning 2023 events to engage even more with the Indian Diaspora residing abroad through other existing initiatives.
In the Forerunners series, Sci-ROI Blogs team members Rohit and Kadambari talk to Padmashri Prof. Rohini Godbole. Prof. Godbole works at the Centre for High Energy Physics, Indian Institute of Sciences, Bengaluru. She talks about her scientific journey and over 4 decades of experience in particle physics research, how the field evolved and where it is going.
She shares some perspectives on current challenges to Indian STEM ecosystem and possible solutions. She also discusses about her important work in promoting women in Science in India. There are also some wise words of advice towards the end for early career researchers. So don't miss this inspiring and educational conversation. Watch here.

ReAct (Research Activation): Building Opportunities for the Future STEM Scientists in India is a research initiation program run by Sci-ROI@India that enables participating STEM undergraduates to develop an understanding of how the research process functions, relate to how scientists solve problems, gain deeper understanding of laboratory techniques, develop data analysis and interpretation skills, and gain the ability to apply their theoretical knowledge to practice.

In 2021, the core team of ReAct and a team of dedicated WINStep Forward volunteers developed and implemented the program. After a rigorous selection process with the help from Sci-ROI@India members, the first cohort was launched in July 2022 with 25 undergraduate mentees from underrepresented institutes across India paired with 9 mentors currently pursuing their PhDs or postdoctoral research in different parts of the world.
Over the next six months, the ReAct mentees worked virtually on specific research projects with their mentors & took monthly classes on topics related to research initiation. Mentees finally presented their findings on ReAct Symposium Day in December 2022 and were evaluated by a panel of esteemed judges who are established STEM professionals. The progress made by the mentees is exceptional as they demonstrated how they gained fundamental knowledge of a topic, learned to identify problems, develop solutions using scientific methodology, and thought about future directions and applications of their projects. These mentees are now utilizing the experience gained during the ReAct program to apply for prestigious summer internships across the country. Read More

ROHIT VAIDYA
Rohit Vaidya is a PhD Candidate at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a Biophysicist, with an undergrad in Physics and now working in the interdisciplinary field of neurophotonics. His research includes development and application of super-resolution microscopy techniques to study learning and memory at a molecular level.

Rohit got to know about Sci-ROI when he was contacted to promote the 2020 annual event at his university. He attended the event as well and started following Sci-ROI after that. He found the core idea of Sci-ROI very attractive, which is to provide a platform for Indian researchers working abroad and establishing a liaison with Indian academia as well as the private sector. Rohit is excited to be a part of Sci-ROI team and hopes to contribute by helping it grow in Europe and by editing and writing blogs about various topics that would be of interest to the members.
