Distance Learning Innovation Award

The recently released zero-cost eText, Methods of Calculus, authored by mathematics faculty Papiya Bhattacharjee, Ph.D., was chosen for the United States Distance Learning Association Innovation Award. The eText is a free open educational resource that was developed in partnership with FAU's Center for Online and Continuing Education. Cavefish: Out of the Dark, Into the Limelight

Alex Keene, Ph.D., associate professor in the College of Science, and his collaborators, assistant professors, Johanna Kowalko, Ph.D., and Erik Duboué, Ph.D., both from Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College, are helping FAU emerge as a hub for the growing field of cavefish research. Together, these scientists are teasing out fish secrets and establishing it as an unconventional sort of lab rat, a subject for routine use in studies intended to shed light on human biology. Mathematical Models and Understanding Infectious Disease with Dr. Necibe Tuncer

Mathematical biologist, Necibe Tuncer, Ph.D., an associate professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, is interviewed by College of Science Dean, Ata Sarajedini, Ph.D., about how mathematical models are used to understand the ways infectious disease spreads in a population. Student Spotlight with Morgan Slevin

Pursuing his doctorate in Integrative Biology and Neuroscience, Morgan Slevin works with assistant professor, Rindy Anderson, Ph.D., in the Behavioral Ecology and Bioacoustics Lab. Morgan's current project aims to help understand the relationship between a bird's gut microbiome, its brain, and its overall health. Read more.

Three Minute Thesis Competition Goes Virtual

FAU's Graduate College will host the University's 4th-Annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) Competition virtually! This exciting competition challenges FAU graduate students to present their research in three minutes. Graduate students compete for over $30,000 in scholarship prizes. Due to University guidelines for COVID-19, the competition will be held virtually this year. Detailed instructions on how to submit videos will be provided to all registered competitors.

51st Southeastern International Combinatorics Conference

The 51st Southeastern International Conference on Combinatorics, Graph Theory, and Computing was held on March 9-13, 2020, at the newly renovated Student Union building at FAU. The conference included a program with plenary lectures by invited speakers, as well as sessions of contributed papers each day. Read More.

FAU Hosts the Southeastern Regional Learning Assistant Workshop

The workshop included presentations and panels with students and faculty on this approach to active learning, in addition to classroom visits in two calculus and a chemistry course taught with learning assistants. Read more.
