Science Olympiad Blast for Grades 3, 4, and 5

Calling All Scientists in Grades 3, 4 and 5:
Science Olympiad is Here!
Sign up Form Due, Monday, Dec. 19th
Science Olympiad is a science tournament for students in grades 3,4, and 5.

Teams of 2 students compete in Challenge, Knowledge, and Build events.  Students practice at home and after school with parent coaches.  The County Competition is held at Druid Hills Middle School on Saturday, March 18th from 8am-12:30pm. Click here for handout 1.

Last year, Briarlake came very close to qualifying for the State Competition! So, this year we will be concentrating our efforts on State Qualifying Events (18 events).  We can have 2 full teams of students (Green Team and White Team).  Therefore, all students that sign up should get to compete.  The sign up form is due Monday, Dec 19th.  It must be turned in before the break! Take a look at all the State Events offered and pick your top 8 choices (#1 = your top pick).  You will be assigned 2 to 3 events that you will compete in.  We will try to give you at least one of your top 3 choices. Click here for handout 2.

The success of Science Olympiad is rooted in parent participation.  Parents sign up to help guide students in their studies.  Parents do NOT need any experience or expertise to be a "coach."  We will supply you with event description and guidelines.  Practices can take place after school, if that is convenient for you.  If a parent volunteers to "coach" an event, their child will be assigned that event.  Remember, Sign up forms are due Dec 19th.  Student event assignments and partners will be given out after the break.  Practices can begin in January. We are very excited for this year's competition. GO BRIARLAKE!
