Connecting and Enhancing Community Engagement

Spring Into Science

Thank you for your support! Our signature event, Spring Into Science on Saturday, April 22 was a huge success!

Spring Into Science, A Huge Success!

Over 400 students and their families attended this Science Outreach opportunity. The event was held in the Frick Atrium and the Princeton Neuroscience Institute. Students engaged in hands-on demonstrations and activities.

Thank you to Princeton University researchers (undergraduate and graduate students, postdocs, and faculty), the Mercer County Rutgers Extension Office, the Princeton Fire Department, and many more who communicated their science with the students to foster STEM literacy and increase the pipeline of interest in STEM education and careers.

Thank you to Kevin C. Hudson who led two college access presentations and Daniel Steinberg for including PCCM and Engineering groups.

We are looking forward to hosting this event next year!

A full-picture gallery will be available on the Science Outreach website in a few weeks.

Thank you to ALL who participated!

Featured Spring Into Science Activity

The Escape the Cell room was a huge success at Spring Into Science. This was an escape room game to communicate central dogma of molecular biology (DNA- RNA- Protein). In this game, students had to solve three puzzles; transcribe DNA to RNA in nucleus, translate RNA to protein at ribosome stations, and fold proteins at golgi to ESCAPE the CELL! Students could time their pursuit, and the best escape times were added to the leaderboard.

Escape the Cell was a collaborative opportunity organized by Sonali Majumdar (Princeton University’s Graduate School) and Caryn Hale (Rockefeller University). The team also included Princeton graduate students and postdocs (Shannon HoffmanPablo Oyler, Moamen ElmassryKarishma Bisht, Paola Estrada, and Laura Ióca). Thanks to all!

See you next year!

Outreach Opportunity with Mercer County Community College

On April 20, 2023, the Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences program in Geosciences shared their science and experiences related to climate change, earth system science, and career and internship opportunities with the students at Mercer County Community College (MCCC). Zachary Labe, Xia Li, and Bor-Ting Jong connected with the community college students who would not typically encounter the field of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences. We look forward to future collaborations with MCCC.

Let's TRACK Your Science
