Volume 9

Connecting and Enhancing Community Engagement

Science Outreach will facilitate mutually beneficial and sustainable relationships between Princeton University Science educators and researchers. Science Outreach serves as a nexus connecting faculty, students, and postdocs with youth, schoolteachers, nonprofit organizations, and the broader community with the goal of increasing engagement, participation, equity, and inclusion in STEM fields.  Science Outreach supports Astrophysical Sciences, Center for Statistics and Machine Learning, Chemistry, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Geosciences, Mathematics, Molecular Biology, Physics, Princeton Neuroscience Institute, and Psychology.

Science Outreach Fellows Program

New for the 2023-2024 Academic Year!

Applications are open for the newly created Science Outreach Fellows Program. The fellows program is open to first-year, sophomores, and junior undergraduates. Selected students will engage in ongoing community outreach opportunities for K-12 students in schools and community programs. Science Outreach aims to address the gap in awareness, preparedness, and retention of students in STEM careers. Science Outreach Fellows receive a stipend each semester, and there is a one-year commitment. Please share with interested undergraduate students.

Applications close September 11. Interviews September 13-18. Required training September 22-23.

Contact Paryn Wallace at parynw@princeton.edu for additional information.

Upcoming Outreach Opportunities

Outreach volunteers are needed for River Days. River Days is an event that celebrates and educates about the Delaware River. Science Outreach collaborates with the Mercer County Park Commission and The Watershed Institute. Volunteers will be used to support program activities, collecting and distributing information. River Days takes place on Saturday, September 16, from 11 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at South Riverwalk Park (the park in Trenton over Route 29 tunnel by the river). Contact Paryn Wallace at parynw@princeton.edu for more information.

Broader Impacts

Please reach out to Paryn Wallace, Associate Director of Science Outreach, if you would like to develop broader impact outreach opportunities for your funding applications.
