Swiftie Science!
In Case You Missed It!
Science Outreach, in collaboration with the Department of Chemistry and the Cotsen Children's Library, celebrated everything science and everything Taylor Swift. The Science Outreach Fellows led hands-on science table activities based on Swift's music. Then, students had an impressive 45-minute chemistry demonstration in Taylor Auditorium paired with Swifty concepts and principles of science. Finally, Swift lookalike undergraduate student Margo Mattes '27 wowed the students.

Science Outreach Volunteers In the Community
Science Saturday
Science Outreach offers monthly programs at four area libraries.
| |
Princeton Public Library
On Saturday, February 1st, a team of volunteers from the Omenn-Darling Bioengineering Institute led a water bear engineering activity with over 15 students at the Princeton Public Library. The team included Jerry Wu, Robert Heeter, Aileen Kauffman, Kathryn Jans, Milosz Majewski, Adham Ali, Paul Kreymborg, Grecia Garcia Elizalde, Daniel Cohen, and Jessica Varela.
| | |
Lawrenceville Public Library
Science Saturday at the Lawrenceville Library on February 1 was led by a team of volunteers from the MAE department. The students engaged in two activities; how surface tension makes liquids move (led by Megan Mazzatenta and Katie VanderKam) and building bio-inspired gliders (led by Hannah Wiswell and Josh Arrington). Thanks to all for a great morning of science.

The Science Outreach Fellows
|
Science Outreach Fellows at Millhill Family Development Center
Each month the Science Outreach Fellows provide hands-on activities for the STEM Club students at Millhill Child and Family Development Center. The students are in 7th – 9th grades and have a passion for science. They also like hearing about the journey of the Fellows and about their lives as undergraduate students at Princeton University.
| | | |
Fellows Leadership Training
On Sunday, February 23, the Science Outreach Fellows had a leadership training session led by Maddie Bland, University Administrative Fellow in the GradFutures program. Leadership training is essential for the Fellows as they take on the responsibility of inspiring the next generation of scientists. By receiving leadership, community engagement, cultural competency, and science communication training, the Fellows will be better equipped to effectively connect with different student populations, foster enthusiasm for science, and serve as role models. Strong leadership skills will enable them to mentor and guide young learners, encourage critical thinking, and create inclusive learning environments.

Science Outreach Fellow
Celebrating Black History
Science Outreach features Jeffrey Asiedu-Brako ‘28. Jeffrey is Black History! He is an Electrical and Computer Engineering student. Jeffrey is deeply interested in teaching STEM and sharing the wonders of science with K-12 students, learning with and from them in fun, hands-on experiences. As a Science Outreach Fellow, Jeffrey volunteers each month at Urban Promise, Science Saturday outreach at local libraries, and the Boys and Girls Club.
Jeffrey encourages the next generation of science learners to be stubborn, never give up when progress is slow, ask for help, be resilient, and be willing to lift others up! Thank you, Jeffrey, for being an inspiration to all.
