Science Outreach will facilitate mutually beneficial and sustainable relationships between Princeton University Science educators and researchers. Science Outreach serves as a nexus connecting faculty, students, and postdocs with youth, schoolteachers, nonprofit organizations, and the broader community with the goal of increasing engagement, participation, equity, and inclusion in STEM fields. Science Outreach supports Astrophysical Sciences, Center for Statistics and Machine Learning, Chemistry, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Geosciences, Mathematics, Molecular Biology, Physics, Princeton Neuroscience Institute, and Psychology. | |
Recent Science Outreach Opportunities | |
Greenwood Elementary School
Stavi Tennenbaum, a graduate student in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, presented an outreach opportunity with two 5th-grade classes at Greenwood Elementary School in Hamilton, NJ, on March 6th. Stavi shared research with yellow-bellied marmots in mountain climates. The studenthadve a hands-on experience with the skulls and skins of coyotes and wolves in addition to learning activities and a video presentation.

Christina Seix Academy
On March 10th, the 4th grade students at Christina Seix Academy had an energy transfer and form of energy activity with the STEM educators from PPPL. The experience was electrifying!

Calling for Presenters
Community Park Elementary School (K-5) is looking for presenters for STEAM Day. The event will take place on Friday, April 28, from 9:00 am – 2:30 pm (a half-day schedule can be arranged based on your availability). Science presentations will take place in 15-minute increments. The Princeton Research Day submission is now open!
It’s time for early career researchers and creators to shine! Princeton Research Day kicked off on March 30 with the opening of the submission portal.
Princeton Research Day is the campus-wide celebration of research and creative work. Undergraduates, graduate students and postdocs are invited to make 3-minute videos and share their projects in person at the PRD23 Showcase on May 11. Presenters can earn cash awards of up to $1,500 for categories such as best video and presentation, campus community impact, innovation and entrepreneurial mindset, thoughtful use of library resources, and positive impact on culture, community or society.

Volunteers Needed for Partnership
Science Outreach is planning an ongoing partnership and collaboration with the Boys and Girls Clubs of Mercer County. This club has 2,300 student members ages 5 to 18. They have 12 locations in Mercer County.
Volunteer opportunities include:
- Hosting a Science Outreach event at various Club community events
- Participate in the annual Teen STEM conference in November
- Volunteer to help run a Science Outreach activity in an after school or camp program
- Help design and lead a 10-week STEM curriculum for a summer camp
- Volunteer for a STEM Club for middle and high school teens, on a monthly or quarterly time frame
- Host a STEM field trip for a camp or teen program
- Be a STEM guest speaker at a high school career program
- Have a departmental or lab STEM table, at an annual College, Career & Job Fair for high school students
