Science MattersSummer 2023

Dean's Message

With research, study abroad courses and scientific conferences in full swing, summer does not slow us down in the Faculty of Science. Summer does, however, provide us with an opportunity to reflect upon the major events of the past academic year.

This year we were excited to welcome all our faculty, staff and students back to campus, and we took lessons from the pandemic to create new ways to be engaged in the classroom. We also saw growth in many areas of research including health, environment, and artificial intelligence, putting us at the leading edge of science. And we are excited about the new investments we have made in regional partnerships with municipalities, healthcare, wineries, breweries, and agricultural industries.

This past spring, we celebrated hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students at three convocation sessions and through our LEAD Medallion Scholars ceremony. And we showcased our alumni in our Because of Science at UWindsor series. We also recognized the achievements of our faculty and staff and recognized our retirees at our annual Spring and Shout event. Finally, we said good-bye to our dean, Dr. Chris Houser, and wished him well in his new chapter at University of Waterloo.

I too have enjoyed leading Science at UWindsor this past year and I am proud of all our accomplishments. And as we begin to prepare for a new academic year ahead, we hope you also will have a few moments for relaxation, reflection and rejuvenation this summer!
