Metal Finishers Have Started Receiving USEPA Chromium Surveys
USEPA has started to send surveys out to metal finishers to inquire about the use of PFAS chemicals and chromium finishing. The Agency has allowed facilities to submit an extension by emailing them directly. We will be working with our clients directly to provide guidance for this burdensome survey. If you do not have chromium plating or chromate conversion coatings at your location, you may also be eligible to submit an exception to having to file the survey. The Agency is only allowing 75 days from the time you are notified to submit the survey unless an extension is filed. Please email info@sclweb.com for assistance with this survey.

Scientific Control Laboratories, Inc. Achieves “Merit Status” for NADCAP Laboratory Accreditation | |

Scientific Control Laboratories (SCL) has earned renewal of their A2LA and Nadcap accreditations in ISO/IEC 17025 quality management and testing services with the honor of receiving Merit Status. SCL will have an extended 24-month accreditation term for the most recent renewal by the auditors from the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program (NADCAP) certification for Quality Systems, and Chemical Processing for Independent Testing Laboratories.
“We have grown over the past couple of years and merit status is a special recognition that is important to us and affirms our quality programs,” stated Aishwarya Krishnamoorthy, Quality Manager for SCL.
Merit status allows SCL to be rewarded with less frequent audit schedules, associated costs. It demonstrates the trust that the aerospace industry has in SCL’s independent testing services.

SCL has been a Nadcap accredited laboratory since 2008 and A2LA- ISO17025 accredited since 1995.
SCL has a scope of testing services that covers an extensive list of chemical, metallography, and mechanical testing methods such as salt fog testing, cleanliness, elemental analysis, spectroscopy, wet chemistry, microhardness, thickness, abrasion, adhesion, and failure investigations.

IEPA Class K Operator Test Prep Courses 2024: | |

Does your company have a wastewater treatment operator requiring IEPA Class K certification? An operator who holds a facility-specific Class K industrial wastewater treatment certification before 2019 must RECERTIFY by July 1, 2024. SCL is offering test preparation courses in 2024 to assist with refresher training. Our next prep class is March 12, 2024.
Any individual who operates an industrial wastewater treatment facility or pretreatment facility or who actively supervises the operation of an industrial wastewater treatment facility is eligible for Class K wastewater operator certification. The Class K certification expires after 5 years. The applicant must renew by requesting and successfully passing the Class K examination. Register for SCL's Class K test prep class here:

Happy 85th Anniversary, SCL! | SCL has been celebrating 85 years in business in Chicago in 2023. Of the 85th anniversary, Vice President Joelie Zak stated: “To continue the legacy of services that Scientific Control Laboratories, Inc. has provided for over eight decades is a real gift. Our employees and our clients continue to allow SCL to grow and we are grateful for their dedication to helping SCL continue to thrive as a small business.” SCL celebrated this summer with a “Spirit Week” full of fun including having a taco truck come to the site for lunch. | |
