A Look Back at March Madness

Starting back in January, God used you all to truly reconfirm that this was where Lanier and I were supposed to be. God blew us away through your generosity in your continued support of us and our role with FCA. We can't say thank you enough for the blessings you have been to us through the past year. We are beyond grateful for you! Below are some snapshots of what March looked like for Lanier and me.

  1. In early February FCA partnered with Athletes in Action (AIA) in hosting a college retreat for athletes from schools in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. There were over 300 college athletes there including Cameron Bennett who was a huddle leader this past summer at FCA Lacrosse's Gettysburg Camp.

  2. One of the most treasured aspects I have experienced over the past year of being in North Carolina is the amount of time I am get to spend face to face with guys who have been involved with FCA. Every Wednesday I drive out to High Point University to spend time with some of the guys on the lacrosse team. Pictured here are Tyler Cook and Jeff Hale after their game against North Carolina. Tyler and Jeff were two of my interns back in 2013 and now they're like family to us.

  3. Every three years FCA hosts a conference for all staff and spouses throughout the world. This year the conference was in San Antonio. This is always a great time reconnecting with staff and getting poured into by some of the best speakers in the country including David "The Admiral" Robinson, Tony Evans, Craig Groeschel and many more.

  4. One of the joys of being in a college town during lacrosse season is being able to see guys who have been part of FCA in the past and are in town for a game against Duke or North Carolina. I spent a little bit of time with Ryan LaPlante and Trevor Baptiste from Denver when they played against North Carolina at the end of February. Ryan and Trevor both were members of FCA's U-19 Vail team prior to heading off to Denver. We are so proud of them!

  5. Lanier and I had the privilege of hosting a dinner for Grove City's Men's Lacrosse team while they were nearby playing games on their spring break trip. We had all 23 guys over at our house for some - what else? -- North Carolina BBQ from The Q Shack.

  6. Palm Beach Atlantic joined in on the fun while in North Carolina and we were able to spend time with them after their game at Elon College. Thanks to you, FCA blessed them with food and fellowship from Lanier's favorite BBQ spot in her hometown of Lexington - Lexington Barbecue. (Lanier's fun fact: Lexington, NC has more BBQ restaurants per capita than any other town in America.)

  7. Peter Blynn and his Harvard Crimson Lacrosse team were in town taking on UNC this past month which allowed for me to spend some time with him at his hotel prior to the game as well as after the game. Peter is a freshman midfielder for the Crimson and a former Gettysburg Camper. I remember Peter and his brothers Reid and Henry from the first Gettysburg Camp I was at back in 2006.

  8. Lacrosse has been a family affair for the Hodgson family now for more than 20 years.  I like to think that I was responsible for getting my older brother Todd into coaching but even if I wasn't, the sport has allowed my brother and me to stay close over the years. This year he is an assistant coach for nationally ranked Culver Military Academy. I had the privilege to see his team last week take on Gonzaga at Homewood Field on the campus of Johns Hopkins University.

  9. All across the country there are guys playing college lacrosse who have been involved with FCA. Whether they were involved through one of FCA's camps, tournaments or teams, FCA has played some role in their life. One of the teams that has a lot of those guys is Furman University. After Furman's game against High Point I was able to spend time with several of those guys including Matt Geran and Tim Lewis. Matt was one of the FCA Lacrosse interns this past summer and Tim was a huddle leader at FCA's Gettysburg Camp in 2013. Both men played on the FCA Lake Plaid College team as well this past summer.

  10. Being on staff for nine years has granted me a lot of amazing opportunities, but out of all those opportunities, the greatest has been getting to know families like yours over those years. The Baileys are one of those families. I have known Jake Bailey since he was entering 8th grade. Jake is now a senior captain on North Carolina's lacrosse team.  Every Friday, I have the privilege of grabbing lunch with Jake in town.
