Hello Tiger Parents,

We have had an exceptional first day at Johnson!  Your kids are amazing. Thank you for your patience and courtesy in the parking lot this morning.  The traffic patterns will be much better in the next few days.  Remember that our students are watching us and how we deal with people.  Please be great models for them.  Student safety is our first priority in the parking areas as well as in the school building.

 Please remember the following:

  • All students need to have a planner.  We have them on sale for $5 at the front desk.
  • All student need to have a school-wide binder.
  • Students should not be dropped off before 8:15 in the mornings and should be picked up not later than 4:00 p.m. each afternoon (unless they are in a supervised school sponsored activity)

Immunizations

Students entering 7th grade must show proof of current immunization to receive a schedule for the 2013-2014 school year.  Please make sure your student's immunizations are up to date BEFORE this school year is over.  Your child will need proof of the following immunizations for the 2013-2014 school year: Tetanus/Diptheria/Pertussis  vaccine  (or booster within past 5 years), Meningococcal vaccine  (1 dose), Varicella vaccine  (2 doses received on or after 1st birthday or a signed statement of varicella disease), and MMR vaccine (2 doses received on or after 1st birthday). These vaccines are required in addition to those required by earlier laws.

PTO Volunteer Forms

It's not too late to turn in your volunteer forms. Even though our kids are in middle school there are still plenty of volunteer opportunities available. The PTO Volunteer Form can be found on the district website.  Here is the link Volunteer!

Rachel's Challenge
We had an incredible assembly and the students were awesome.  Here are the Rachel's Challenge Expectations at Johnson.  Please go over these at home.

  • Treat others the way you want to be treated.
  • Dream big and believe in yourself.
  • Appreciate everyone and mock no one.
  • Power of positive gossip.
  • Forgive and be forgiven.
Cell Phones and Electronic Devices
Please talk with your child about using their cell phones and other electronic devices at school. Devices may be used in the cafeteria during breakfast and lunch, and during classes allowing them for research.  The decision is yours.  If you would like them to have access during these appropriate times, then please let them know.  During all other times, phones are to be off and out of sight.  Not on vibrate, off!  The safest place for these items is in their academic locker until the end of the day or left at home. Unfortunately, we have several broken, lost, or stolen electronic devices each year.  Thank you for your understanding.

Planners and Binders
All students should have a planner and binder by now.  This is a school-wide AVID strategy.  Please let us know if you are having trouble getting one for your child.

Thank you for the privilege of working with your children each day.  We are so lucky to have great kids, great parents, and the best staff in the State of Texas!  It is truly an honor.

Sincerely,
