From the Pastor's Desk

Dear SCAPC Community,

Thank you for gifts that have helped us welcome over forty new members into our life together this fall. Thank you for gifts that support our youth ministry and youth support staff, welcoming nearly 100 youth on our campus on Sunday nights and providing them a safe space where they know they are loved and can grow and ask questions about faith. Thank you for gifts that nourish this community each week on Wednesday Nights, reaching every generation of our congregation with delicious food, fellowship, and enriching programs. Thank you for your gifts that bring beauty and joy to worship, that feeds our minds, fills our souls, and lifts our hearts. Thank you for your gifts that contribute to the needs of our neighbors, feeding the hungry, empowering others to discover their God-given gifts, and welcoming those with memory changes into a place where they are treated with dignity and their humanity affirmed. Your gifts make ministry happen in and through the congregation at St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church. Thank you.

Gratefully yours,

Chris Currie

Scottish Heritage Sunday

Tartans! Bagpipes! Kilts! During worship this Sunday, October 26, we will incorporate worship elements from our denomination’s very beginnings, enjoy a rousing bagpiper procession, and recognize SCAPC’s 50+ year members. Selley Series speaker Rev. Dr. William H. Willimon of Duke University Divinity School will preach at both services and lead an adult Sunday School class. A reception will take place following the 10:30 service on the Land Building lawn with Scottish treats to enjoy. Learn more at scapc.org/heritage and sign up to bring treats if you can.

We encourage everyone to wear tartan!

Combined Adult Sunday School Class

This Sunday our Selley Series Speaker/Guest Preacher Rev. Dr. William H. Willimon will lead a combined adult Sunday School class in Frampton Fellowship Hall at 9:30 a.m. The topic will be "The Gifts of the Reformation: Thank God We're Presbyterians." All are welcome!

Please note that the SANCTUARY WILL BE CLOSED for organ construction this Sunday. Both the 8:30 and 10:30 services will be held in Frampton Fellowship Hall.

To help create space for everyone, we encourage you to try out the 8:30 service! Communion will be served and the service will last about 45 minutes.

Dr. Willimon's Monday Workshop

On Monday, October 27 at noon, Dr. Willimon will hold a workshop for community clergy and church members entitled Listeners Dare: Listening for God in Sermon. Limited copies of Dr. Willimon's book will be available for purchase. The workshop will take place in the Land Building. A light lunch will be served at no cost, however we do ask that you contact pierce@scapc.org to reserve a spot.

YAF Pumpkin Carving Party

The Young Adults & Families (YAF) will hold their annual Pumpkin Carving Party this Friday, October 24 from 5-7 p.m. on the Land Building lawn. Pumpkins, carving and decorating supplies, pizza, drinks, and dessert will be provided! Please RSVP on the SCAPC app or on the YAF webpage.

Churchwide BBQ Celebrating 105 Years!

On Sunday, November 2, join us for a churchwide BBQ on the Land Building lawn where we will celebrate SCAPC's 105th anniversary! We'll enjoy BBQ prepared by Chef Matt McCann, games, and a memory display. We are seeking volunteers to bring desserts, so please sign up at scapc.org/bbq.

Seeking Advent Devotion Writers & Artists

This year we are centering our Advent Devotion on the Jesse Tree Symbols and Bible Stories. A Jesse Tree is a way of preparing for Advent by journeying through the stories on Jesus’s family tree. Each day of Advent, there will be a Bible story about someone in Jesus’s family and an ornament symbolizing their story. The tree will show us how, through many generations, God prepared for Jesus to be born.

We need both devotion writers and artists to sign up for each day in advent. Devotions should be about 300 words. Art of all kinds is welcome and can be newly or previously created. We just need a photo of the art to be included in the devotion book. Kids of all ages are encouraged to sign up as well! Visit our Advent page for details and to sign up. Contact Katie@scapc.org with any questions.

England/Scotland Pilgrimage

Would you be interested in a travel pilgrimage in October of 2026? The pilgrimage, led by Chris Currie and Jim Wallace of Scotus Tours, would take place from London to Canterbury to the Holy City (Edinburgh), focusing on England’s cathedrals and Scotland’s Abbeys, sacred sites, and communities. Visits would include Westminster Abbey, St. Paul’s Cathedral, Canterbury Cathedral, York Cathedral, Durham Cathedral, the Holy Isle of Lindisfarne, Melrose Abbey, Dryburgh Abbey, Galashiels-Great Tapestry of Scotland, Edinburgh, and St. Giles. Please contact pierce@scapc.org if you would like to be listed as a ‘person of interest.’ If 24 or more participants express interest, we will share a more detailed itinerary.

YAF Tennis Tournament
