On February 8, 2025, Scouting America will celebrate 115 years of Scouting and its new name – Scouting America.
During the national celebration, Scouts will be featured on Good Morning America, in the Associated Press and we’ll share the Scouting story through influencers, social / digital content and with a major national campaign.
That evening, Scouting America will light the Niagara Falls, the Hoan Bridge, the Wheel in St. Louis, the Terminal Tower in Cleveland, (and many more) red, white and blue to symbolize patriotism, unity, and the enduring legacy of Scouting.

An Important Note from the IWC Religious Relations Committee
February is the month where Scouting especially recognizes a Scout's Duty to God. In February of each year, Scouts of the Islamic faith celebrate Scout Jumuah, Scouts of the Jewish faith celebrate Scout Shabbat, and Scouts of the Christian Faith celebrate Scout Sunday.
These events may be celebrated on any date in February that best serves the chartering organization. Often the first weekend (closest to February 8: the Anniversary of Scouting in America) or second weekend is chosen.
The Religious Relationships Committee would love to hear what your charter partner or unit is doing to celebrate a Scout's Duty to God in the month of February. We would like to post these on the Council website and include them in the next Scout Shorts. Please let us know (photos are always welcome!) at IWCReligiousRelations@gmail.com
The Committee meets via Zoom on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 7:30 PM. If you would like to join us, please contact Dan Wagner, Committee Chair at carolyndan@gmail.com or Tara Holdberg, Staff Adviser to the Committee, at Tara.Holberg@scouting.org

Scouting For Food
Scouts and leaders of the Indian Waters Council are planning for their annual Scouting for Food campaign in the month of February to benefit local food pantries. No one should ever go hungry and the reality is, more families are having a tough time feeding their family. Food pantries are always in need of food to restock their shelves.
Each unit should plan to deliver door hangers on the first Saturday and then collect donated food the following Saturday and deliver it directly to local food pantries.
There are two times of year that our units collect food:
Midlands Area (Columbia, Lexington, Cayce, Camden, Lugoff, Orangeburg)
Saturday, February 1 - Place door hangers out in community
Saturday, February 8 - pick up donated food and deliver to food pantries
Horry County (Myrtle Beach area)
Saturday December 7 - Place door hangers out in community
Saturday December 14 - pick up donated food and deliver to food pantries
Report your unit collection information here!
