Famous Adventurer Terry Fossum Kicks Off
THE BIG GIVE
February 16, 2023
This past year has given our Scouting Family much to celebrate and we are excited to move into 2023 after historic mergers of councils and Order of the Arrow lodges. In 2023, we invite all our Scouting friends to celebrate and support our young people throughout the council in the BIG GIVE campaign, which kicks off with a luncheon with adventurer and author Terry Fossum. The BIG GIVE Kickoff Luncheon will take place on February 16th, 11:30 AM-1:00 PM at Brookland Baptist Church in West Columbia. Save the date! It will be followed by similar events throughout council, from Orangeburg to Myrtle Beach. Stay tuned...we have high aspirations for our young people and their Scouting adventures in 2023.

Historic Winter Banquet Coming Soon
January 7, 2023, in Sumter
Excitement is building as our two Order of the Arrow lodges officially become one when the Santee Lodge #116 and the Muscogee Lodge #221 convene together at this year's Winter Banquet. The event, themed, "Better Together," will take place at Trinity United Methodist Church in Sumter on Saturday, January 7th.

Nineteen Merit Badges
at Conway Event!
January 21 and February 4, 2023
From Citizenship in Society Merit Badge (pictured) to Space Exploration, the Chicora District of the Indian Waters Council is excited to have 19 different merit badge offerings at its 2023 Merit Badge College. The event is open to Scouts everywhere and will take place in at PALM Charter School in Conway on January 21 and February 4. Scouts must attend both days and
can earn up to four merit badges. Space is limited; register here

Winter Cub College
Saturday, January 28, 2023
Lexington UMC in Lexington
This January the Indian Waters Council will offer an opportunity for Cubs to learn and advance with Cubs from other local Packs as they attend a fun and exciting day at Cub College. Cubs will be placed in their den level and participate in two preselected Adventure Programs.
Cub College will be held Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Lexington UMC in Lexington. We will start at 9:00am and conclude at 1:00pm. Cost is $10.00 per Cub and will receive the Adventure Loop/Pins they complete. Enroll by Wednesday, January 25, 2023.
Parents and Den Leaders will have something to do while Cubs are in Adventure programs. Choose from a list of great short courses that will help you boost your Cubs experience in Scouting. Click HERE to enroll in Cub College today!

Scouting For Food Drive
Set to Make a Big Impact!
Our communities are again counting on Scouts to help fight hunger during Scouting Anniversary week. Our entire Scouting family is encouraged to participate in this year's Scouting for Food Drive on the following dates:
Saturday, February 4: Distribute information
Saturday, February 11: Pickup and Deliver Food
We will soon have more information soon to remind neighbors to put out non-perishable food items on February 11th and will arrange their distribution to units. Scouting for Food participation patches can be ordered HERE.

Camp Coker to Host IOLS Course
February 11 & 12, 2023
Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) builds and expands on the concepts and themes introduced in Scoutmaster Position-Specific Training and provides Scouters with the confidence to take youth into the outdoors.

Merit Badge University

February 25, 2023
River Bluff High School in Lexington
Merit Badge University - Gives Scouts a chance to work on one Merit Badge during the day, a variety of badges will be offered. Cost is $20 per Scout, which includes lunch. Registration is done by the unit. Sessions will begin at 9:00 am and end at 3:00 pm, with a break for lunch. Scouts choose one badge for the day. Questions on MBU? University of Scouting - Scout leaders can choose from a variety of 50 min trainings to attend. This event is open to all Scouts BSA leaders. Some classes are one session and some may be all-day. UoS sessions will begin at 9:30 am after the Scouts start their merit badge sessions. Cost is $15 per leader, which includes lunch. You must pre-register so we will have a count for sessions and lunch. Questions for UoS contact Brooks Prevette at theprevettes@gmail.com

Wilderness First Aid
Certification Course
March 4-5, 2023
At Camp Coker
This 2-day, outside scenario-based course will be offered at Camp Coker, in Society Hill, SC on March 4-5, 2023. The cost for this course is $150.00 per person. All scenarios are based upon the instructors’ experiences at Philmont Scout Ranch and other wilderness medical environments including military deployments, wilderness search and rescue, Wildland Fireline, and National Park Backcountry EMS. Upon successful completion of this course the participants will receive a 2-year Wilderness and Remote First-Aid Certification by the American Red Cross. The registration deadline is Monday February 27. Participants must have CPR/AED training prior to taking this course. Click HERE for more information.
