Welcome to the June 12, 2020 edition of the Digital Eagle: Weekly Talon! This is a weekly publication of the Greater Alabama Council, BSA to help keep you and your family on the Scouting Trail.

Update on BSA Financial Restructure
You may have seen in the news some updates on the BSA Finance restructure and Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.  So we wanted to provide you with an update.  As many of you know the national organization of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy to achieve two key objectives: equitably compensate victims who were harmed during their time in Scouting and continue to carry out Scouting’s mission for years to come.  Our council, the Greater Alabama Council The Greater Alabama Council is a separate 501(c)3 operating as a financially separate organization. The Greater Alabama camps, Volunteer Service Center and finances are owned and controlled by the Greater Alabama Council. 
You may in the near future get a notice from the BSA or see advertisements on TV, Radio and print media that is part of the bankruptcy process to identify any claimants.  The links below have more information for you on these notices and other resources. that you may find helpful.  Thanks so much for your continued support and leadership of Scouting.

Camp is about making new friends, discovering adventure, building memories, and of course advancement. Camp Connected brings you those incredible experiences of camping and places them right in your home from the comfort of your favorite chair. With Camp Connected the fun of camp is just a click away.

Camp Connected will feature over 30 merit badge offerings you can choose from. Scouts can take 4 merit badges per week, participate in virtual campfires, flag programs, online activities, digital contests, and more.

Now Accepting Nominations for the Silver Beaver Award

The Silver Beaver Award is the highest honor that a Council can bestow on a volunteer Scouter. This award recognizes continuous service to youth over a sustained tenure in the Boy Scouts of America. The Silver Beaver Award was introduced in 1931 and is a council-level distinguished service award. The award is given to recognize registered Scouters of exceptional character who have provided distinguished service within a council.
To nominate an individual or individuals for the Silver Beaver, please work with your District Executive, and submit all nominations to the Council through them. The nomination form as well as information on the Districts of the Greater Alabama Council can be found in the links below.
Camp Card Sale Update!

The 2020 Unit Camp Card Sale ends on July 8th! Units need to return all remaining cards and money to the Council Office by July 8th.
