While at the NCAC TOR I had an interesting conversation with a fellow collector. He is a comic book dealer among other things and has had success with the live selling app called WhatNot. He really thinks that I should give that platform a try as I have many of the things that make a good show...namely and audience and endless inventory. So I'm putting it here for the readers of the Hot Finds in a very informal poll. Send me back and email if you want to see me try out selling Scouting memorabilia live with 15 second auctions on this new platform.
I was in a book club zoom last night with some other business owners land we kicked around the idea. The consensus is that it would be a 1 hour show at set times during the week. I have played with the idea of including an unboxing into this format but not sure if that's doable. You might remember I've been playing with this idea of having an unboxing where you can buy the things right after they come out of the box. Maybe WhatNot could be that?
Later this week I have some potential new hires coming to the warehouse to check things out and do a more formal interview. I hope they will be able to shadow my current employees and see how we run the operation.
I have 107 live auctions on eBay with SAPs being the majority of that inventory. I am also auctioning off OA and Philmont as I worth through the piles.
I really do believe in the idea of polling the audience to see if this WhatNot idea makes sense. Essentially, it's a live show where individual items are presented and run in a 15 second auction. I'll probably have low minimum bids to keep the interest up. The platform combines shipping and everything is sent out with tracking. It was started for people selling collectibles but now there are all kinds of categories.
