I think my patch trading video from the conclave has gotten about 200 views so far. I'm always happy to see youth trading and to celebrate that our hobby has lasting power. So here was the sad thing - I know so many people that their reason for sticking with the OA for so long was the American Indian program. At our conclave it was the final time this was going to be included. I don't want to get all political as they say but I will say I felt genuine sorrow for all the dancers I saw last Saturday that may never have another opportunity to pursue their hobby.

My good friend Paul Gowder connected to his native heritage through being exposed to it at camp and through conclaves. He was so interested about it that he founded a website in the 1990s and became someone who has built an amazing community of people through his PowWows.com platform. While I was at conclave he was attending the largest Pow Wow in the country in New Mexico as he has done now for decades on the last weekend in April - the Gathering of Nations.
