Vintage Scouting Memorabilia On eBay

In the spring I put out a call for thread heads coming to the Charlotte TOR to bring a display to share. I wanted to carve out some room in the floor plan to allow people to display their collections. Marcus Bailey answered the call and brought a terrific display of OA sashes. Today I'll share one ripple effect to prove my point.

Marcus was kind enough to let me bring my tub of unsorted OA sashes to the show to compare with his neatly organized and labeled display. We spent probably 30 minutes sorting my stuff out figuring which ones were dupes and identifying the keepers. Walking away from the TOR I had a really complete sash collection lacking only a couple of heavy hitters. I almost never spend money these days on my personal collection. But with inspiration from his sharing that was about to change.

Scouting Auctions Ending Soon on eBay

Marcus sold me the holy grail that I had been looking for since I got into OA and started paying attention to memorabilia. He sold me a felt flocked Vigil that he had a dupe on. This rare sash was only used for a few years and in all the collections I have purchased I never got one. The closest I ever got was a picture of a guy wearing one. I got his collection but his old felt sash was long gone.

Then in last week's Hot Finds I spotted the last need that I'm really looking for. This was the flocked felt Vigil where there is an oversized felt triangle attached. Again a very rare sash that was only used for a few years. While on vacation I sat at the dining room table at 10 AM talking to my wife without giving away I was waiting until 8 seconds were left to drop a nuclear bid that won the auction. Coming home I picked up the package that was delivered yesterday.

This is the way! When you share your collection at Scouting events, TORs, troop meetings etc you plant a seed. Even I didn't know this would happen when Marcus shared his collection. But almost unconsciously the collector in me had to finish my sash collection once I realized how close I was to being there. I put almost $1600 back into the circular patch economy and now I can be the one sowing seeds. I plan to have my sash collection on display at my lodges Winter Banquet in January. :)
