Popcorn Ace of the Day! Contest - Oct 31-Nov 15
For Everyone
With The Daily Ace contest, sell the most popcorn online in a day and win a $20 Amazon gift card! We will report the top 3 online popcorn sellers, by total dollars, each day at 5pm on the Pacific Skyline Council’s Popcorn Facebook Group page. Scouts must sell at least $100 to qualify for that day’s reward! Each day’s top winner will be emailed a $20 amazon gift code. The Scout with the highest cumulative sales during the contest time period will receive an additional $50 amazon gift card! We will continue to offer free shipping on all orders of $30 or more until at least November 15. We congratulate our very first three Daily Aces: Calvin L., Adam S., Dashiell P-H. Great work! Questions? Contact Tom Kenney at thomas.kenney@scouting.org.
Why Should We Sell Popcorn?
For Everyone
A leader in our Council recently sent out a total of 3 emails and 2 Facebook posts and raised close to $2,000! All in less than 20 minutes and no extra work for the unit! With minimal effort, units can make enough to fund their program and help pay for the new program fees!
• No extra work for unit leadership! Especially true in 2020 when most Scouts are only selling online.
• Popcorn can help pay part of, or even all the dues for your Scouts! With the new membership fee structure, units may be finding it a little difficult to leverage those fees.
• A pack in Northern California has sold over $100,000 this year!
• Can also help pay for your unit’s program, outings, equipment, advancement, etc.
• Scholarship additions for those who previously enrolled into the Trail’s End scholarship program.
• There are fewer units selling right now, so there is more opportunity to make more sales.
• Get involved today to join this easy fundraiser!

Does Your Unit Accept Online Applications? Has Your Unit Updated Your Pin?
For All Unit Leaders
Attention Unit Leadership: As we go back to school, families up and down the peninsula are looking to join Scouts! And the Number One way they find your unit is through BeAScout.org. This is also the preferred way to have new members join your unit! When families see your unit on the map, they have the option to contact you And APPLY TO YOUR UNIT--but you must have your BeAScout pin updated AND online applications turned on. Please take five minutes and update your pin at my.scouting.org. Instructions can be downloaded here. COR's can now designate a registered member of the unit to approve adult applications. The online system will collect all national and council fees. This means you will not have to bring any paperwork or fees to the office. We encourage every unit to use this functionality as the only way for new members to join! Full details here.

Key Steps Packs and Troops Can Take Right Now to Help Return to Scouting Activities
For Everyone
Many Scout units have a desire to return to Scouting activities, but they have questions about how to do so safely. Additionally, with some traditional meeting locations unable to be used because of the pandemic, units may need additional options. During the recent recruiting webinar on how to hold meetings safely during COVID-19, attendees received tips on the key steps they can be taking right now to find a safe way to return to their meeting activities. More information on those key steps is included in this article. Read it to answer your questions about how to move forward with Scouting right now.
2020 Scouting For Food is now Good Turn For America - Month of November
For Everyone
Second Harvest Food Bank is unable to accommodate the Scouting For Food drive this year, due to COVID-19. Because of this change, we are excited to announce the return of “Good Turn for America!” During the month of November, units are asked to complete a service project of their choice to benefit their charter organization, their meeting location, or their immediate community. Some possible ideas include: mask drives, clean-up projects, toy drives, cards for the elderly, cards for service members, food drive for a local pantry, etc. We can’t wait to see what you come up with! We will have a patch available to order at the end of November. Learn more.
Silver Beaver Award Nominations - by Dec 20
For Everyone
Don't let a worthy Scouter go unrewarded! The new 2020 Silver Beaver Application Form, which is a fillable pdf, makes the nominations that much easier. Eligibility and Deadlines:
The Pacific Skyline Council, with the approval of the BSA National Court of Honor, may present the Silver Beaver Award to a Scouter who has given Noteworthy Service of Exceptional Character to Youth and is currently registered in this Council. The nominee must be 21 years of age or older and a volunteer Scouter. The award may not be presented posthumously. Former professional Scouters will not be considered within 5 years of their leaving employment with the BSA. The nomination must be submitted on the Silver Beaver Award Nomination Form complete with original signatures. Out-of-date forms will not be accepted for evaluation. All sections of all pages should include as much information as possible for best consideration of the nominee. The nomination form must be submitted to the PacSky office on or before Dec 20. The Silver Beaver Selection Committee will meet early January 2021 to review nominations and make selections on a “blind” basis. Forms submitted without the district committee chair's signature will not be accepted. Please send all applications to Steve Smith at stesmith@scouting.org.
Cutter and Oljato ranger Don Hartline
Help Us House Our Ranger - In Need of an RV
For Everyone
Don Hartline is our camp ranger for both Cutter Scout Reservation and Camp Oljato. While he was able to evacuate Cutter during the wildfires with many of his personal possessions, we are working to get new housing established for him. We are asking for anyone who owns an RV (e.g., trailer, 5th-wheel, motorhome), who would be willing to donate its use to the council for this purpose, to please contact our Director of Outdoor Programs, Davey Warner, at davey.warner@scouting.org.

If you are interested in donating money to support our camps or volunteering to help with recovery projects, please click a button.
Your Support is Needed Now More Than Ever!
For Everyone
"Be Prepared" is our motto and there is no better time to financially support Pacific Skyline Council and help live out the motto. This is the time of year that our families typically participate in the annual Friends of Scouting (FOS) campaign. FOS is our Council's single largest direct source of income. 100% of the money raised through our Friends of Scouting campaign benefits the Scouts and Leaders right here locally in PacSky. We know these are unique and challenging times for many, but please help if you can. If you have already given to Friends of Scouting this year, thank you! If not, please consider making your online FOS gift right now. $250 supports one Scout for one year in the program but a gift of any amount is very much appreciated. There has never been a time in the history of the Boy Scouts that a monetary gift will be so impactful and so critically needed. Thank you for your kind consideration!

3 Easy Ways to Support Scouting:

  1. Make a Friends of Scouting 2020 donation (button below).
  2. Check with your employer about a Matching Gift, or click here.
  3. Make sure that you submit your Scouting Volunteer hours if your employer has a "Dollars for Doers" program.

Camp Oljato 2021 Registration is Open!
For Scouts BSA
We've been working hard to make 2021 the best summer yet! The Pacific Skyline Council is gearing up for summer 2021 at Camp Oljato. Though we were not able to operate in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have been able to make great progress on improving the camp thanks to the work of volunteers and staff. Units attending in 2021 can look forward to: a new arrival dock, a new boardwalk to Hopi campsite, new sheds at the shotgun and archery ranges that double as inclement weather shelters, and more! Learn more and register your unit!
5K Walking Challenge! - Late Oct-Nov
FOR EVERYONE
We challenge you to walk 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) from late October to Thanksgiving! Why 5 kilometers? Because this year we celebrate Cutter Scout Reservation’s 50th Anniversary (1970-2020). Walk one kilometer for each decade Cutter Scout Reservation has served as a fantastic camp for thousands of Scouts and families. Many of us would love to spend multiple weekends up at Cutter Scout Reservation or Boulder Creek Scout Reservation this month, and hopefully one day we can again but for right now get outside and walk! So, over the month of November we not only want you to stay Mentally Awake participating in our Reading Challenge we started in September, but also stay Physically Strong by tracking your steps every day to see if over the course of the next 30 days you can walk 5 kilometers! 5K not enough? Try walking 50K, one kilometer for each year. Or try for the number of years Boulder Creek Scout Reservation has been with us and do 54K! Learn more. Submit your daily mileage! (Feel free to include any mileage from late October.) Learn more.
