New Join Requirements for Scouts BSA
For Scouts BSA Leaders
An article in Bryan on Scouting announced new joining requirements for Scouts BSA effective April 18, 2022. See the article and learn more here.
The new requirements are:
  • At least 10 years old, currently in the fifth grade and register on or after March 1
  • - or -
  • At least 10 years old and have earned the Arrow of Light Award
  • - or -
  • At least 11 years old (but not yet 18)

California Law Protecting Youth - AB 506

Thank you to those volunteers who have completed their online training in order to comply with AB 506. This training is for all volunteers and needs to be completed as soon as possible. Live Scan Finger printing is now available.
Step 2: When training is completed, upload your certificate here.
Step 3: Download the Live Scan request form, bring it with you to the Live Scan.
Step 4: Visit any Live Scan location of your choice. Find locations here or here.

Cub Scout Spring Recruitment
For Cub Scout Leaders
Now is a great time for your pack to host a Spring Recruiting event! Families are looking for outdoor activities to join right now and every new Scout comes with a set of parents looking to volunteer! It’s easy:
  1. Pick a join night. The best time might be half an hour before your April or May pack meeting!
  2. Promote your recruitment night! The council offers free materials, including Invite-A-Friend cards (which we strongly recommend), by ordering here.
  3. Host your recruitment night! Download our Recruitment Guide for the Recruitment Night Set-Up and details. (Page 12 has some great information!)
  4. Turn in your new applications! We strongly suggest online registration
  5. Invite the new Scouts to their first meeting! Get the parents involved using our 100-Point Adult Participation form (also found on page 19 of our Recruitment Guide)!
Every pack should host a spring recruitment night at your school! This is the best way to build your pack and find new volunteers! Visit our Spring Recruitment web page for full details or contact your District Director for details!

For Scouts BSA and Venturers
Scouts, are you interested in attending a once-in-a-lifetime event? The National Jamboree will be held at The Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia in July 2023! The Pacific Skyline Council will be organizing a contingent troop to attend together! If you are interested in attending, we will have registration up and running by the end of the month. It will be a two-step process, where you apply first with the Pacific Skyline Council and then with the National Council. In the meantime, if you are interested in attending, please let our Jamboree Chair, Pam Swain, know of your interest via email. We will announce via this e-newsletter when our registration is live. For over 70 years, Scouts around the country have been helping to honor our country's fallen. Locally, Scouts, Scouters, veterans and other community groups from all over the Bay Area gather in tribute to these gallant men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our country. Please note that the registration says “individual” but it will ask for a head count for your unit as well as other unit-specific information. Register and order patches through May 20 at 11:59pm. 2022 Day Camp! - 4 Summer sessions

2022 Come On to Cub-ON! - Aug 12-14, Oct 21-23, Oct 28-30
For Cub Scout families
Cub-On in May is Sold Out. June is Sold Out but wait list is available. Cub-On is a weekend family camping event for all Cub Scouts and their families. Boulder Creek Scout Reservation is located in the Santa Cruz mountains in a lush redwood forest. Program areas are open throughout the weekend. Meals are provided; trained staff on duty for all areas of camp; “Bobcat Trail” program for brand new Scouts; and “Spirit of the Arrow” for Webelos. Learn more & register. NRA Range Safety Officer Training - May 21
For Everyone
Develops NRA Certified Range Safety Officers with the knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to organizing, conducting, and supervising safe shooting activities and range operations.
Covers: Roles and responsibilities of an RSO, Range Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Range inspection, Range rules, Range briefings, Emergency procedures, Firearm stoppages and malfunctions. Allows one to conduct and supervise safe shooting activities and range operations. Does not allow one to provide firearms instruction. Cost: $75. 8am-5pm, Palo Alto Service Center. 2022 PacSky Commissioner Kickoff Event - Aug 27
For Commissioners
Annual gathering of all Pacific Skyline Council commissioners to kick off the school year. Come for training, council updates, fellowship, and more! This event is open to all Pacific Skyline Council Commissioners. Registration opens 6/6/22, 9am. Learn more.

If you haven't already taken the required courses for your Scouting position, log on and get trained. There are several Required training opportunities available online, as well as Extended Learning. 
  1. Log on to my.scouting.org
  2. Click on "Menu"
  3. Click on "My Training"
  4. Select YPT (Youth Protection Training) if you need to update it (every 2 years)
  5. All other classes, go to "Training Center" and select the courses needed by program.
  6. Take any Trainings needed for your leadership position in Scouting.
This way, you will be ready to hit the ground running when quarantine restrictions are lifted.
