The Anti-Racism Reboot is part of Scripps Oceanography’s ongoing efforts to provide training and learning opportunities to create a more equitable, diverse, and inclusive community. Curated from the Chancellor's 21-day Anti-Racism Challenge, this weekly series is tailored for the Scripps community to learn together, with facilitated discussions that will be held weekly where participants can ask questions and process the material. The goal is to assist everyone in furthering their awareness, compassion, understanding, and engagement towards anti-racism.
Register here. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join in the Anti-Racism Reboot. You only have to register once in order to participate in any of the discussions. A member of the Central Park Five will open the conference and share his journey and personal experiences fighting for justice. "Crystal Leigh Endsley, activist and professor of Africana Studies at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York, will facilitate a full-conference racial caucusing activity and then close the conference with a keynote address."

The first series of talks will be provided by researchers joining as part of the Coastal Ocean Environment Summer School in Ghana (COESSING) focusing on efforts to build an international Ocean Peace Corps. During the second event, we'll hear from Scripps and UCSD faculty and community members on Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) efforts and visions. Featured speakers for Part 2: Provost Ivan Evans, Ms. Keiara Auzenne, Dr. Amina Schartup, Dr. Jennifer MacKinnon, Ms. Danielle McHaskell, with an address by Dr. Margaret Leinen, Scripps Director. Each set of talks will be followed by a discussion in which audience members can participate. Please mark your calendar and watch for registration information sent out in late January.

QSS is the queer postdoc-led group you’ve been waiting for! All queer and allied scholars (whether grad student, postdoc, or research scientist) in the San Diego area are invited to attend. Virtual meetings will consist of discussing literature or video that illuminate opportunities and challenges for LGBT individuals. We hope IRL meetings will happen eventually, too.
