Another Successful Summer for Scripps' SURF Program
|
|
In August, the Scripps Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program wrapped up a historic summer with virtual student research presentations. Larger than ever, the SURF program this summer provided opportunities for thirty-six students to participate in research at Scripps in formats that ranged from both fully remote to hybrid (featured on local news) . The success of the 2020 SURF program is due to the community effort at Scripps to provide impactful research opportunities for the next generation of diverse and talented students!

Multicultural Meet Up @ Scripps

Many people who are multi-ethnic or multi-racial report feelings of not quite "fitting in" (e.g., check out NPR's Code Switch episode on this topic). So, come be your whole self with us! The Scripps Office for EDI will begin hosting a Multicultural Meet Up approximately once per month for Scripps' students, staff, and faculty who identify with more than one culture, ethnicity, or race. A link to join will be sent via SIO's EDI listserv.

September is
Hispanic / Latinx Heritage Month
This is a month-long opportunity to celebrate and recognize Hispanic / Latinx folks at Scripps! This month, we recommend finding ways to educate yourself on how this month came to be and how a diversity of Latinx people and cultures have helped shaped modern life in the United States. We will also be inviting Latinx students, staff and faculty to be profiled in an effort to highlight and recognize Latinx Excellence at Scripps!
Perhaps you'd like to celebrate with a good book! Here's a list of relevant reads offered by the UC Press.
And, stay tuned for educational content via WMIS' Twitter and Instagram.
