Whether you're excited about Scrivener, scared of it or have never heard of the writing software, this class is for you! Scrivener is one of the most popular creative writing software programs around.

For a more hands on experience, attendees are encouraged to bring computers and are encouraged to download a free copy of Scrivener beforehand. As a reminder, Scrivener has a very generous trial period and, should you choose to purchase the program, SCBWI members receive Scrivener discounts .

Uninterrupted time to write, draw, recharge, and CREATE in our backyard!

Houston SCBWI invites you to come create with us in the beautiful piney woods at our Choose-Your-Own-Adventure Retreat the weekend of Friday, May 19 - Sunday, May 21!

Why that name? Because you get to choose how much or how little to participate in scheduled activities. Looking forward to craft sessions and socializing? Awesome! Looking for a hermit-like solitude that also provides for the basic needs of food, water, and caffeine so you can finally push through that messy middle? Also awesome!

This rejuvenating escape to the woods is your opportunity to get away from distractions. We'll be at Camp Allen's comfortable retreat center in the serene piney woods of Navasota, Texas.

Open Volunteer Position: Newsletter Editor

We are currently on the lookout for a new editor for our monthly newsletter! At the moment our newsletter is mostly comprised of upcoming events but we are happy to help the editor make the newsletter their own. As with all our volunteer positions, we want to make sure volunteers get as much benefit as possible for their own kidlit careers!

Responsibilities:

Coordinate with the Regional Advisor to create ten monthly newsletters per year containing information about regional and global SCBWI events along with other pertinent information for our local members. Newsletters are created via Constant Contact and training is available for those unfamiliar with the platform.

Compensation: This position is compensated with a free membership to SCBWI during your time on the regional team and occasional discounts to SCBWI events from our fellow Texas chapters.

If you are interested, please email [email protected]
