Dear Sea King Families,
I can't believe today is the last day of April. I know I have said this many times this year, but this school year is going by incredibly quickly! As we head into May this week, we will start two weeks of Advanced Placement (AP) tests. The instructions and schedule for the two weeks are outlined below. This can be a stressful two weeks for those who are testing so we are reminding everyone to provide extra support and grace to students during this time. Let's encourage our kids to get enough sleep, eat healthy meals, stay active, and reach out for help if they are feeling stressed.
May also happens to be Mental Health Awareness Month and our counseling department will be having weekly activities to remind our students of the importance of having a balanced, healthy approach to school. As we are wrapping up this school year, please encourage your students to do things that improve their overall well-being, like getting outside, spending time with a loved one, or doing something creative. It is also important that our students understand healthy coping skills, how to feel confident in themselves, and show kindness to others. We continue to work on these goals as a school community for our students to feel connected and supported on campus.
As always, I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with our incredible faculty, staff, students, and families. I hope you are having a relaxing Sunday and we will see you tomorrow!
Sincerely,
Dr. Trista Ramirez
Principal

PVHS Boy's & Girl's Lacrosse Honored at Angel Stadium
This past Monday, both our PVHS Girl's Lacrosse Team and our PVHS Boy's Lacrosse Team were honored in Angel Stadium for winning the CIF Southern Section Academic Championship for having the highest Team GPAs of any team in the CIF Southern Section.
Out of 565 CIF Southern Section High Schools, Boys Lacrosse and our Girl's Lacrosse teams had the highest respective team GPAs of any lacrosse team at any school. This is a tremendous testament to the well-rounded students we have at PVHS and to students on both teams who understand what being a student-athlete is all about.
While these two teams were being honored for their skills in the classroom, both teams are continuing to find success on the field and have both earned spots in the CIF Playoffs starting this week:
PVHS Girl's Lacrosse travels to Culver City High School in the 1st round of CIF playoffs on Wednesday(5/3)
PVHS Boy's Lacrosse hosts Crespi High School in the 1st round of CIF playoffs at home on Thursday(5/4).
Great work Sea Kings! You continue to make us proud. Now go make a deep playoff run!

Attention PVHS Students:
Take the One Hill Project Survey!
| |
|
One Hill Project is a student-led organization comprised of PVHS and Peninsula High students, and led by our student school board members. The organization is looking to gather input from all students regarding mental health, academics, activities, school involvement, and sustainability of facilities. It is a survey by students for students. The One Hill Project wants to elevate the students' voices with the school board and gather as much feedback as possible regarding these topics.
The survey only takes about 4 minutes and is completely anonymous. These survey results will be shared with the Board of Education with the hope of enhancing their understanding of what is impacting high school students and providing them with student perspectives when they are making policy decisions. Please use the link below to have your voice heard on these issues. The survey will also be posted on the homepage of our school’s website. You will have until May 13th to complete the survey.

State and AP Testing in April and May
The testing season is upon us! Our Juniors will be participating in state testing in Science, English, and Math and our AP students of all grades will participate in their subject area AP tests. The full testing schedule is below for your reference.
| | |
The State of California assesses schools by testing 11th-grade students in Science, English, and Math. A school's scores on these tests are a major factor in determining a school's ranking, which some colleges look at when they are considering students for admission. Thus, a strong performance on the SBAC ELA, Math, and CAST Tests is absolutely pivotal in keeping our California school ranking strong and giving our students the best chance with admission at the top colleges and universities.
Please join PVHS Staff in encouraging our students to prepare and do their best on these upcoming tests and to Go for the Green, the highest school ranking a school can achieve on the CAASPP tests.
For more information about the exam: http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/ca
For information on opting out of state tests for 11th-grade students,
please contact our associate principal, Mr. Hill at hilld@pvpusd.net.
